REPORTING DIRECTLY TO THE: EXECUTIVE MANAGER: WATER AND SANITATION-EAST LONDON
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- / BTech (Civil) or equivalent accepted by the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
- Professionally registered with ECSA as a Pr Eng / Pr Tech Eng.
- At least 10 years’ relevant experience in the consulting industry.
- Mandatory for majority of experience to be in project management and construction monitoring of water infrastructure projects.
- Extensive experience in the use of FIDIC and GCC.
- Competency in using MS Project and MS Office suite.
- Advantageous experience / skills:
- NEC
- Use of Civil 3D and/or Civil Designer and other relevant design packages
- Preliminary and detailed design for urban and rural water reticulation systems, pump stations rising mains and reservoirs.
- Preliminary and detailed design for urban and rural sewer reticulation systems, outfalls, pump stations and rising mains.
- Feasibility studies, business plans.
- Client liaison.
- Tender and contract document preparation.
- Ability to generate work for the company.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills coupled with a sense of urgency and a participative management style.
- Excellent leadership and management skills.
- Strong administrative skills.
- Ability to work independently, but also as part of a dynamic team.
- Have a keen eye for detail and work accurately under pressure.
- Deadline driven.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
- Ability to travel locally and internationally if required.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Management of projects and monitoring of performance and profitability.
- Contract administration and Inspection as well as construction monitoring, as necessary, and management of site staff.
- Carry out site inspections and other assigned construction monitoring activities in accordance with the Company’s Quality Management System’s requirements as set out in the applicable work instructions and checklists.
- Attend meetings and write notes and reports.
- Produce progress reports.
- Carry out research, compile relevant data, evaluation of the technical and financial aspects, complete with cost estimates and budget quotations for civil engineering proposals.
- Manage Engineers, Technologists, Technicians and site staff throughout the planning, design, tender, Implementation and close out stages of various water and sanitation projects.
- Conduct research and carry out feasibility studies.
- Prepare business plans for submission and approval by DWS, MIG and other relevant funding organisations.
- Supervising the production of technical drawings, designs and reports as directed.
- Prepare tender and contract documents including detailed specifications, special conditions of contract and bill of quantities.
- Check all drawings, designs, reports and documents produced in accordance with the Company’s Quality Management System.
- Manage tender processes, conduct tender evaluations and report to the client.
- The Engineer shall report directly to the Executive Manager: Water and Sanitation-East London.
- Management of staff and mentoring of graduate engineers, technologists and technicians.
- Maintain regular and continued professional development through on the job training, in-house courses, seminars or outsourced specialist training as required and as agreed with the designated Executive Manager or other Responsible Person.
