JOB DESCRIPTION The opportunity: Lead Technologist: Cosmetics Compliance will play a critical role in ensuring that TFG Beauty's product quality and compliance in terms of regulatory and legal requirements are met . This position reports to the Head of Quality and Compliance. The position reporting into Group Merchandise Procurement Division (GMP) and the Quality Assurance department Key Responsibilities: The KPA's are listed below detailing why this role is so critical to the success of the TFG Beauty business and brand reputation: Regulatory Compliance: Develop and manage the compliance framework within TFG Beauty. Taking responsibility to ensure my products are safe, legal, responsibly sourced and meet the TFG's rules & policies and regulatory requirements. Manage export requirements. Ensure legal and regulatory compliance on product labelling. Scope systems to manage legal and regulatory requirements of product. Risk Management: Manage the risk in the supply chains, from source, ingredients and raw materials, processing, manufacturing and TFG's routes to market (safety, business & reputational risks) Responsible for Auditing outcomes Manage R&D regulatory eg AI Supporting the delivery of the responsible sourcing agenda across the supply base - monitoring ethical and technical audits and working with suppliers on corrective and preventative action plans. Safety Assurance: Verify that ingredients are safe and used within regulated limits. Ensure all testing is conducted to issue a Certificate of analysis including adhoc testing to validate claims and or formulation breakdown. Quality Control: Implement protocols to monitor product consistency, stability, and performance. Identify and address any deviations or defects in the manufacturing process. Product Development Support: Work closely with product development teams to assess the feasibility and safety of new formulations, ingredients, and packaging materials. Work closely with regulator authorities in the industry and product development teams to propose and establish claims to be tested. Partner closely with Regulatory bodies , Quality & NPD teams and suppliers to align on reformulation. Ensure compliance requirements are met in the agreed PDV critical path. Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintaining detailed records of ingredient sourcing, manufacturing processes, quality testing, and regulatory compliance is essential for transparency and accountability. Technologists are responsible for documenting these aspects to demonstrate due diligence. Track new ingredients, claims, stay up to date of the competitive environment and cosmetic regulations to support new product ideas. Managing compliance and regulatory product information files. Customer Confidence: With growing consumer awareness about product safety and ethical sourcing, having a dedicated team ensuring compliance and quality can boost consumer confidence in the brand. Responding to complaints and incidents quickly and effectively, ensuring stakeholders are aware and relevant action is taken to protect customers and Collaboration: Build strong suppliers/lab partners relationships. Build future capabilities with lab partners. Participation in CSR activation in partnership with PDV teams and marketing Budget management: Proposed and manage budgets in line with requirements Supplier Management: Playing an active role in the supplier strategy for my area, ensuring we use the best suppliers & sources Supporting the development of supplier capability through collaborative engagement, setting clear goals and measuring progress. Assess supplier capability against regulatory and legal requirements Requirements: Completed tertiary qualification in Quality and or Compliance Management (consumer goods manufacturing eg : clothing, footwear, homeware) or a related field Minimum of 10 years of experience in social and ethical compliance and/or quality control, with at least 3 years in a managerial role Exposure to compliance software will be an advantage In-depth knowledge of local, national, and international compliance standards and regulations Proven experience in developing and implementing compliance and quality control programs Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively at all levels Certification in compliance and/or quality management is a plus Competencies and behaviours for success: Understand risk Multi-stakeholder engagement Represent business with external stakeholders Operational acumen (detail on admin) Planning for future projects Ability to influence Strategy formulation Leadership Preference will be given, but not limited to candidates from designated groups in terms of the Employment Equity Act.
