FACULTY OF NATURAL AND AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES DEPARTMENT OF CONSUMER AND FOOD SCIENCES LECTURER (FOODS DIVISION) The incumbent will be responsible for: Undergraduate teaching: Develop and present core modules in the foods division. Subject expertise will be focused on Introductory foods and preparation, Hospitality management and operations, Largescale food service management and production. The incumbent should also be able to supervise undergraduate research projects; Community engagement: Foster a sustainable community engagement; Liaise with industry stakeholders; Continuous engagement within the academic community through co-supervision; or external moderation; Research: Present and maintain a steady publication output; Ensure communication of research findings within academic, industry and public domains; Postgraduate supervision: Supervise postgrad students; Administration and management: Assist in curriculum development and divisional management. Closing date: 03 MAY 2024 No application will be considered after the closing date, or if it does not comply with at least the minimum requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Masters in B Consumer Science Hospitality or Retail management; Enrolled for PhD in Consumer Science in Food Management; At least five (5) years' experience in Foods & Hospitality tertiary teaching environment; At least three (3) years' experience in Foods and Hospitality industry sector. REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES): Expert knowledge of foods preparation; Advanced knowledge of hospitality operational management; large scale food preparation; large scale food service management and research methodology; Seasoned knowledge of event management; Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); Seasoned proficiency in Hospitality management software (e.g. Oracle Opera) and SPSS (Statistical software); Behavioural attributes should include teamwork; good communication and interpersonal skills; leadership; critical thinking; problem-solving skills; good time management and good work ethic; Be able to work independently. ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES: Event management industry experience; Experience in curriculum development and or re-curriculation; Established industry and academic collaborations. The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
