THE OPEN WINDOW SCHOOL OF VISUAL COMMUNICATION VACANCY: LECTURER IN COMMUNICATION DESIGN The Open Window (OW) is an accredited private higher education institution recognised for setting innovative standards in the field of visual arts and digital sciences, founded in 1994 with a focus on providing a unique tertiary platform where practice-led tuition links traditional fine art practice with the JOB SPECIFICATION: LECTURER IN COMMUNICATION DESIGN Teaching and assessment within the field of Communication Design. Working with a team of colleagues to develop the Communication Design curriculum and participating in all Communication Design department and School of Visual Communication related tasks. Executing administrative tasks in support of the academic offering and the Communication design team. DUTIES: Lecture at an undergraduate level in the subject Communication Design. Plan and manage weekly classes. Arrange and conduct workshops and/or contact sessions with students where needed. Organise guest speakers, external examiners or moderators, where needed. Develop course content where needed. Provide course notes, conduct formative and summative assessments and record and finalise student achievements within the subject. Mentor and coach individual students in their growth as Communication Designers. Participate in The Open Window or School of Visual Communication events, where needed. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS The successful applicant: should be qualified with a minimum of an Honours (NQF 8) degree in the field of Communication Design/Graphic Design/Information Design. must display a comprehensive portfolio featuring industry based projects. must have industry based experience or teaching experience at a tertiary institution. must be competent in using the following software: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe After Effects (preferable), any additional creative software knowledge will be beneficial. should show enthusiasm in the field of Design and possess a good grasp of the industry and discourse related to the field. needs to maintain links to the industry and keep up with trends within the industry.
