NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (VANDERBIJLPARK CAMPUS) FACULTY OF ECONOMICS AND MANAGEMENT SCIENCES SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT SCIENCES POSITION NUMBER: P001399 POSITION: LECTURER / JUNIOR LECTURER PEROMNES GRADE: A8 / A9 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT APPOINTMENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: A Lecturer is expected to make contributions to the teaching effort of the institution and carry out activities to maintain and develop his/her professional activities in the profession or discipline. An academic at this level is also expected to play a major role in scholarship, research, and/or professional activities. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Teaching and Learning : The conduct of tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, clinical sessions, and studio sessions. Initiation and development of subject material. Marking and assessment. Consultation with students. 2. Research and Innovation : Conduct research. Involved in professional activity. 3. Academic Leadership: Involved in school and faculty committees. Contribute to advising students and recruitment activities. 4. Social responsiveness: Involved in community engagement and sharing of expertise. · Junior Lecturer: An honour's degree or Postgraduate qualification (NQF level 8) in Safety Management or relevant field. A minimum of 1 year work experience in this particular subject group. Experience in the presentation of relevant subjects in an undergraduate teaching programme. Sound practical experience to lead students in work in integrated learning. Show evidence of independence and initiative in research, applied, or creative works. · Lecturer: A master's degree (NQF level 9) in Safety Management or relevant field. A minimum of 3 years work experience in this particular subject group. Experience in the presentation of relevant subjects in an undergraduate teaching programme. Sound practical experience to lead students in work in integrated learning. Show evidence of independence and initiative in research, applied, or creative works. RECOMMENDATIONS / ADDED ADVANTAGES: · Membership with the South African Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (SAIOSH). KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES: · Computer literacy in MS Office, e-mail and the Internet. · Knowledge of the appropriate assessment theory and practice to enhance student performance. · Commitment to teaching and learning, including a willingness to become involved in students' educational environment. BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES: · Effective time management skills. · Effective communication skills. · Good interpersonal relations and a client-service orientation. · Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various functionally multilingual environments of the NWU. · The ability to function well individually and as part of a team/subject group. · Good analytical abilities and innovative thinking, as well as the ability to be self-driven. · Ability to solve problems independently. · High level of professional and ethical conduct. REMUNERATION: The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
