NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHEFSTROOM CAMPUS) FACULTY/ DIVISION: FACULTY OF ECONOMICS AND MANAGEMENT SCIENCES POSITION NUMBER: P003212 VACANCY: LECTURER NGAP PEROMNES GRADE: A8 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT The North-West University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the following position, which form part of the New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) of the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). Preference will be given to applications from black (African, Coloured and Indian), female and disabled candidates, with a target that at least 80% of applicants should be appointed from these groups. Applicants must be SA citizens and 40 years or younger of age. The nGAP represents the ninth phase of the Staffing South African Universities Framework (SSAUF), which the Minister of Higher Education and Training approved at the start of 2015 as an initiative to improve the academic staffing capacity of South African universities. The programme aims at addressing the urgent and challenging imperative to recruit, support and retain black (African, Coloured and Indian), female academic and disabled staff to address the under-representation at all levels in the sector. It is a key vehicle to contribute to the transformation of the academic staff profile in disciplines of greatest need. nGAP employees will participate in a six-year developmental programme in terms of which they will be employed on a permanent full-time basis at the NWU under the University's normal conditions of service. They will be expected to register for and complete their doctoral studies, participate successfully in the DHET's Staffing South Africa's Universities Development Programme, and work under the supervision of an appointed mentor. In order to achieve the developmental aims of the programme, nGAP employees will have a reduced teaching load over the first four years of their appointment. They will be expected to work for additional two years at NWU after the completion of the six-year developmental programme. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The nGAP position in the School of Economic Sciences is part of the SSAUF initiative by the DHET to improve the academic staffing at South African universities. JOB DESCRIPTION KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching and Learning: The conduct of tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, clinical sessions and studio sessions. Initiation and development of subject material. Development and Supervision : The preparation and delivery of lectures and seminars. Supervision of the programme of study of honours students or of postgraduate students engaged in course work. Teaching activities include initiation and development of unit materials and may include the supervision of honours and research students. Research and Innovation : Supervision of major honours or postgraduate research projects. The conduct of research. Involvement in professional activity. Start / continue with own PhD Development of Course: Development of course material with appropriate advice from and support of more senior employees. Marking and assessment. Consultation with students. Master's degree in Macro-Economics / International Trade (NQF level 9). The Master's degree must be achieved with an average of 70% or above. KEY FUNCTIONAL COMETENCIES: Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), email and internet Knowledge of the appropriate assessment theory and practice to enhance student performance. A proven commitment to teaching and learning, including a willingness to become involved in students' educational development and wellbeing. Knowledge of modern platforms (e.g. whiteboard technology, eFundi, etc.) to enhance the ongoing changing of the learning and collaboration environment.
