NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHEFSTROOM CAMPUS) FACULTY OF NATURAL AND AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES SCHOOL FOR MATHEMATICAL AND STATISTICAL SCIENCES POSITION NUMBER: V000511 VACANCY: LECTURER PEROMNES GRADE: A8 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT APPOINTMENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The candidate will be responsible for lecturing undergraduate and/or postgraduate statistics modules and can also be expected to be involved in the development of new modules. Other duties include the supervision of honours students and completing projects as a statistical consultant. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching and Learning · Presenting undergraduate and postgraduate statistics modules. · Development of new modules. Research and Innovation · Supervision of honours students and studying towards a PhD degree/supervision of postgraduate students Statistical Consultation · Assist in planning research projects, analysing data, publication of research and review and approve ethics applications. KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES: The candidate must be able to: · Analyse data using advanced statistical techniques by means of suitable statistical computer packages (such as SAS, R, PYTHON, SPSS and STATISTICA). · Provide guidance with regards to data collection, analysis, and interpretation. · Present both undergraduate and postgraduate statistics modules. · Act as group coordinator for modules with multiple groups. · Handle large undergraduate classes. · Supervise honours students. · Communicate well in English (verbally and in writing). KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES: · Work independently, but also as a team. · Have very good people skills. · Professional and ethical behaviour. · Be able to act as a mentor for junior staff. · An MSc degree (NQF Level 9) in Mathematical Statistics or equivalent. · Registered for PhD or intention to register for a PhD (NQF Level 10) in Mathematical Statistics or equivalent. ADDED ADVANTAGES: · A minimum of two (2) years' experience in teaching undergraduate and honours courses. · A minimum of two (2) years' experience in consultation services or relevant industry projects. · Membership with SASA. REMUNERATION: The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
