Reference: CPT002471-AK-1Short term insurance concern is seeking a Legal Manager that is qualified, vibrant, and driven individual that can head up its team of experienced Third party and Recovery Specialists.Optimizing internal procedures; training and development of the team, and continuously striving to maintain value adding relationships with brokers and other external stakeholders, all form part of the daily operations of the Manager who is ultimately responsible for ensuring the consistent achievement of financial targets and objectives. Responsibilities: Able to motivate and manage a team of diverse individuals Provide guidance and thought leadership Ensure that the team is adequately resourced Advise on advancement and technological developments which will assist the functioning of the team, reduce resources and increase output Evaluate and implement key processes and procures to ensure that the department functions effectively and meets the deliverables of the Company Critically analyses requirements and how to achieve Company strategy and fulfil initiatives Understand and report on the performance and productivity of the team and financial performance of the team, evaluate and identify trends and implement corrective action Think analytically Report on legal developments in the industry and risk associated with the functions performed as well as how to deal with these Legal, regulatory and complaint requirements: Drafting and/or reviewing agreements with service providers, settlement agreements and in-house documentation Providing feedback and guidance on changes in legislation and regulation applicable to the insurance industry (insofar as it impacts on the handling of recovery and third party/legal claims) Managing complaints (whether internal or to a regulatory body) Reviewing and providing advice on policy wording (insofar it has a bearing on claims handled by the team) Recovery and third-party claims requirements: Understanding the full lifecycle of a claim and the industry Managing recovery and third-party lability claims and litigation Ensuring that procedures and targets are in place for staff to achieve the deliverables set by the Company Managing service providers Managing disputes Developing and managing relationships with other industry role players, to achieve the best outcome from these relationships for the Company. Requirements: Grade 12 LLB Degree – essential Admitted attorney of the High Court - essential Successfully passed RE 5 (Representative Exam) - essential 3 years post admission experience in a legal practice or as a legal advisor - essential Minimum 5 – 10 years’ experience in the relevant field Minimum 3 years management / Team leader experience Good drafting and communication skills Ability to convey thoughts and arguments clearly and concisely Experience with complex claims, litigation, negotiation and drafting legal documents extensive knowledge of the insurance industry and insurance law (from a practical, industry and regulatory perspective) Relevant work experience within Short-Term Insurance Claims Operations at an Insurer, Underwriting Manager (UMA), or other Risk Carrier, where broker interaction forms an inherent part of the job. Knowledge and understanding of the Corporate Broking environment, current market trends within the industry, external factors that could impact the business, as well as a sound understanding of competitor product offerings.
