Legal Risk and Compliance Specialist - Johannesburg

Job Purpose
To facilitate, monitor and ensure that the organisation is conducting its business in full compliance with all national and international legislation and regulations, as well as professional standards, accepted business practices, and internal standards to deliver good organisational outcomes.

Key Performance Areas

  • Compiling the company risk register and ensuring the assessment and periodic review of risks.
  • Ensuring compliance with all regulations related to the PBO status of the company and IAs.
  • Be the company information officer and ensure the company complies with all applicable regulations, i.e., BBBEE, POPIA, etc
  • Provide input into the design and implementation of an overall risk management strategy process for the company.
  • Provide input into the design and implementation of the Compliance strategy program for the company.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the companys Risk program.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the companys Compliance program.
  • Contribute to the development of Risk and Compliance Policy, and associated procedures.
  • Conduct strategic risk assessment awareness training for relevant company stakeholders and implementing Agencies.
  • Develop, monitor, and assess governance, risk, and compliance control systems to prevent or deal with violations of legislative or regulatory compliance.
  • Provide guidance and support to the organisation on risk and compliance-related issues.
  • Provide quarterly risk and compliance reporting.
  • Organise appropriate risk reporting, internally and externally.
  • Oversee and evaluate cross-functional risks and update reports accordingly.
  • Develop risk management policies and procedures for the company and update them with any necessary amendments where required.
  • Provide reliable, value-added, and independent assurance to the company over the effectiveness of controls mitigating current and evolving high risks and in so doing enhance the control culture within the company.
  • Facilitates governance and compliance development programmes (such as Risk Assessment Workshops) for the company.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree Law (LLB)
  • Postgraduate qualification in risk management, or compliance management will be an added advantage

Experience

  • 5 years experience in Risk Management and Compliance position
  • Must have Information Management experience
  • Corporate Governance and Risk experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Strong understanding of corporate law, commercial transactions, and regulatory compliance
  • Interpretation of statutory requirements and guidelines
  • Knowledge and understanding of Risk protocols, methodologies, and principles
  • Knowledge and understanding of Compliance legislation, protocols, methodologies, and principles
  • Good working knowledge of strategy and operational planning
  • Computer literate (MS Office suite)
  • Excellent business Report Writing skills
  • Advanced Presentation skills
