A Fibre Route Maintenance Technician maintains, inspect and service existing fibre routes. This shall include civil work where required. Install fibre optic cables and testing of cables. Job Title: Fibre Route Maintenance Technician – Rustenburg Based Location: Rustenburg Job Summary: Duties & Responsibilities: Route Maintenance: Perform work in accordance with industry standards. Read and follow splice diagrams instructions and specifications, experienced and understand the engineering design of a cable network, read drawings, plan, and manage work tasks and procedures and procure material. Maintain the scope of work and adhere to safety procedures. Collaborate with other company personnel to meet organizational and project deadlines, metrics, and mission objectives. Run fiber optic cables underground, overhead, client premises cabling and installations. Fusion splicing fiber optic cables including both loose tube and ribbon cables. Preparing and splicing of all types of splice drawers. Proficient in fibre cable termination with connectors well versed in fusion splicing machine. Install fiber optic cables, Floating and hauling method. Civil work to repair damages to infrastructure. Installation of enclosures, joints and splitters, all types and sizes, BUDI boxes, customer termination boxes and panels. Testing of pressurized and non-pressurized enclosures for all types and sizes of cable Labeling cables, joints, manholes, termination boxes, manholes, patch leads, equipment, etc. as per company specs and requirements. Ensuring all attended sites are clearly labelled. Conduct regular inspections of fiber optic systems and locate and repair defects. Technical training and experienced in testing and using FO troubleshooting tools (i.e. OTDR, Mass Fusion Splicing, etc.) Perform IOLM testing, along with power meter testing, and capture loss to ensure splicing loss budget is adhered to and measure signal strength to ensure adequate performance. Perform corrective and preventative maintenance procedures and tests to verify operability of the fiber or cable network and equipment. Recognize and repair route issues including Hand Hole cleanup, troubleshoot, and maintain fiber optic systems. Skilled in Using MS Excel, prepare and submit red line changes per the as built design and provide accurate test result documentation as well as TX OPPS sheets and as-built documentation. Time Keeping, Equipment & Tools: Keep assigned vehicle clean and orderly Perform timecard updates daily and sign timecards weekly to support reporting and payroll activities The core duties include: Housekeeping Ensure that all work areas are neat and tidy. All Risk assessments are completed daily and handed in to the office weekly. All Checklists are completed daily and handed in to the office weekly. Health & Safety: Ensure implementation of Environmental Requirements Carryout Risk Assessment Implement traffic management, barricading & safe work practices. Reporting Daily Report Sheet: Current status in regards to progress and outstanding works. Report on any staff issues Any difficulties encountered on site that has or could impede progress of the works. Desired Experience & Qualification: Grade 12 Driver’s License Computer Literacy CFOT Certification Relevant construction /telecommunication experience which includes: Fibre specific experience, splicing, floating practices.
