Job Specification: Maintenance Engineer - Mining Industry - Eastern Cape Hire Resolve's client is currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical) to join their mining operations in the Eastern Cape. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining mechanical systems and equipment, ensuring their optimal performance, reliability, and operational efficiency. This role requires strong technical expertise in mechanical maintenance, a solid understanding of the mining industry, and the ability to work within a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Responsibilities: Ensure safety through adherence to procedures and PPE requirements, compliance with organizational and legislative safety standards, identification and prevention of unsafe practices, reporting of safety issues, incidents, and accidents, maintaining good safety performance, and ensuring all legal appointments are in order. Control budget and expenses, manage engineering resources, establish section budgets, and seek cost-saving opportunities. Provide strategic direction for the section, oversee innovation and change initiatives, maintain high-quality output, meet availability targets, reduce unplanned outages, and improve engineering processes. Develop and implement engineering policies and procedures, execute standards, and ensure compliance with Group policies. Ensure efficient work management by aligning processes, establishing management controls, and implementing procedures to monitor and improve engineering department performance standards and targets. Ensure effective administration of systems, compile reports, follow change management standards, conduct maintenance meetings, communicate decisions, monitor performance, implement maintenance plans, track project progress, maintain accurate records, and keep the maintenance management system updated. Ensure efficient management of equipment, resources, and costs by planning capital, controlling budgets, monitoring plant performance, seeking cost-saving initiatives and improved technology, ensuring equipment reliability and availability of utilities, optimizing water and energy consumption, tracking implemented solutions' success, developing maintenance strategies, investigating efficiency, safety, and reliability improvements, managing non-conformances and conducting audits. Implement systems for compliance and audits, drive business improvement projects, and ensure adherence to relevant legislation, particularly focusing on OHS Act and Regulations. Manage labor, report movements to HR, and oversee overtime. Manage team performance, discipline, and training. Provide clear expectations and schedules. Develop competencies through coaching and training. Follow plant manager instructions, prioritize safety, maintain cleanliness, assist in problem-solving projects, and coordinate repair and maintenance tasks. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. A post-graduate degree will be an advantage. GCC Mines and Works Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in mechanical maintenance within the mining industry. Strong understanding of mining processes and equipment, including crushers, conveyors, mills, and pumps. Proven experience in leading maintenance teams and managing maintenance projects for large-scale mining operations. In-depth knowledge of preventive and corrective maintenance practices, root cause analysis techniques, and reliability-centered maintenance concepts. Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and their application in maintenance planning and execution. Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to make sound decisions under pressure. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with teams and stakeholders at various levels. Demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety, ensuring compliance with regulations and promoting a culture of safety.
