Responsibilities: Sustainability through innovation (Competitive participation and Implementation): Identify and appoint qualified and experienced staff within the Sport Psychology and academic advice division. Oversee the effective functioning of the Sport Psychology and Academic Advice division. Effective management of budget by monitoring the expenditure within the division. Serves as a departmental representative in a variety of meetings, to convey and receive information related to assigned projects and activities. Provide study workshops to student-athletes. Conduct Sports psychology sessions with the teams. Teambuilding activities across all clubs. Create a detailed work plan that identifies and sequences the activities needed to successfully serve the specific sport code. Management of academic assistance and mentoring programmes which include: Academic guidance, monitoring services, and planning. Mentoring programmes. Wellbeing programmes. Ensure academic retention throughput and adherence to academic performance clauses through the management of academic assistance programmes. Build and maintain excellent working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Provide a support function to UJ Sport and Student-Athletes to achieve sports performance. Support athlete sports teams, and coaches mentally prepare for matches, races, and other types of sporting competitions. Provide Athletes with psychological techniques and strategies to help improve their performance, such as goal-setting, imagery, arousal regulation, and pre-performance routines. Provide counselling services to Athletes who have suffered a long-term injury, anxiety, or a loss of confidence. Provision and /or access to mental preparation and sport psychology services. Manage the sign-off/auditing processes for USSA, Varsity Cup and Sport, FISU, and FASU. Provision or access to regular life skills and workshops for holistic development and achievement. Career assessments, guidance, and planning to all potential UJ Sports Recruits. Working with a multidisciplinary team. Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual report submission. Identify and develop potential projects for income generation. Masters' degree in Psychology with experience in Sport Psychology, counselling psychology, Educational Psychology Registered Psychometrist At least three (3) years' working experience in tertiary education and academic programmes. At least three (3) years of working experience in career assessment and guidance. At least five (5) years of working experience in psychology. Experience providing counseling or sports psychology services at all levels. Strong knowledge of academic advising principles and experience working with student-athletes in a higher education setting. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build trusting relationships with diverse individuals. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with athletes, coaches, academic advisors, and other stakeholders to support student-athlete success. Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, ethical standards, and compliance with relevant professional guidelines and regulations. Required excellent knowledge and skill in the field of Sport Psychology High competencies in psychology-specific assessment tools. Valid code B driver's license. Competencies and Behavioural Attributes: Conversant with Microsoft Office packages Analyse and resolve problems and situations effectively. The ability to perform under pressure. Excellent writing, verbal, and electronic communication skills. Proven ability to produce high-level reports. Good presentation skills. The ability to initiate and manage projects and work independently. The ability to develop collaborative relationships with senior staff across the university. Exemplary personal qualities of integrity, sound judgment, attention to detail, and energy and interpersonal skills. A team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with people at all levels in a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment. Effective thought leadership and management as demonstrated by thorough writing, presentation, and /or participation in professional organisations. Strong relationship-building and consulting skills. Strong interpersonal relationships; and Analytical thinking.
