Required Qualifications: Degree in Engineering (Mechanical / Electrical) GCC added advantage Required Experience: Min 5 years relevant experience in a rendering plant Production principles Processing equipment and plant maintenance and operations Labour relations legislation and procedures ISO and health, safety and environmental legislation National best practice standards Systems for SHEQ Key Responsibilities: Strategic Contribution Input into SIA operational targets and execute Company short, medium and long term strategies in by-product production Assist the Factory Manager in identifying future opportunities to optimize plant performance. Monitor and evaluate team SIA achievement and KPI's. By Product Production Planning, Management and Control Continuously adjust man-loading and equipment availability to meet the constant changing production plan and priorities. Establish and maintain systems to produce the highest quality by-products. Establish and maintain updated ISO systems for the By-Product operation. Ensure that equipment performance and maintenance priorities are aligned to meet by-product production requirements. Manage the operation to achieve production targets at the lowest possible cost and highest quality. Ensure that all reject / non-conformance product is removed as per best operating procedure and removals are recorded and reported in line with environmental policy. Ensure the smooth flow and movement of by-product to avoid contamination. Manage effluent plant to ensure discharged water complies with municipal effluent discharge specification. Services Management Oversee the services contracts operating within the by-products area and their performance against standard. Financial Management Meet targets for the By-Products operation as dictated by budget. Manage all expenses ensuring they stay within budget. Manage fixed and operational assets ensuring they are utilised optimally. Formulate and implement approved CAPEX plans relevant to the operational area of responsibility considering long term sustainability and return on investment. Manage the procurement process within responsibility thresholds and oversee stores requisitions. Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality Compliance Ensure the plant and all its operations comply with all relevant TQMS, health, safety and environmental requirements as well as legal requirements relating to water usage and effluent management. Ensure adherence to HACCP and ISO regulations throughout the whole process. Ensure environmentally sustainable practices are implemented and adhered to and that and that resource usage is managed effectively (e.g. conservation of water, electricity and gas). Work with external and internal auditors to ensure non-compliance is identified and addressed. Manage sites environmental adherence in conjunction with Risk Control Officer and report non-compliance to relevant parties for action. Ensure the operation of the By-Products plant within the boundaries of the Rendering Plant Act 36 of 1947. Ensure that boiler statutory inspections are carried out as per legislation. Stock Management Manage the stock levels and transfer of meal to Epol. Manage and co-ordinate the sale of PBY meal to internal and external customers. Information Management and Reporting Establish a system of accurate data management ensuring that accurate and up to date information is captured into the system daily. Report on operational performance and compliance to the Factory Manager. Maintenance Ensure maintenance of areas that require specialist attention by Engineering team. Resolve and co-ordinate daily maintenance and urgent maintenance issues in conjunction with the responsible maintenance personnel. Ensure that assets, plant and equipment are appropriately maintained for optimal production levels in conjunction with Engineering. Team Supervision With support from HR and the Factory Manager, employ staff in vacant and approved posts. Supervise the activities of the team to ensure production targets are met. Coach and support team members where necessary to achieve individual, plant and strategic objectives. Manage leave and general time management issues in line with Company policy. Authorise all time sheets and attendance registers daily. Authorise leave application forms and submit them to the relevant clerk when necessary. Implement training and development plans for the team as agreed with the Factory Manager. Manage the employee relations climate and ensure corrective action is taken where required in line with relevant legislation and Company policy. Chair or initiate disciplinary hearings as needed according to RPM standards. Conduct regular performance appraisals with sub-ordinates and ensure that the process is cascaded throughout the team. Co-ordinate sub-ordinate career path planning. Ensure team members are competent in all relevant SOP's and carry out planned job observations. Apply Now
