Description Job Description: A general medical practice is seeking a Medical Receptionist with a passion for family orientated health care. This practice has been running since 1951 with a legacy of holistic patient centred care. There are 2 practices, in Southernwood and Beacon Bay. We have 9 general practitioners who rotate through both practices. Our GPs offer a comprehensive range of services for your medical needs. Education and experience: Grade 12 or equivalent Relevant certification (advantageous) Understanding the importance of patient confidentiality is of the utmost importance. Understanding of medical terminology Understanding of the general medical industry Duties and Responsibilities: Attend patients as they arrive by greeting and welcoming them with a caring and polite attitude. Direct patients to the appropriate area Answer incoming calls within 3 rings, maintain politeness and confidentiality during all phone conversations. Screen and forward calls appropriately. Assist patient with wheelchairs or other mobility issues where necessary. Book, change and cancel patient appointments in keeping with company guidelines. Check fax machine and distribute incoming faxes. Ensure that the alarm is activated, and all doors and windows are closed and locked when leaving at the end of the day. Ensure messages are complete, accurate and delivered in a timely manner. Verify every patient’s contact details and medical aid details by reading out what is on the system. Always speak quietly on the telephone Maintain a clean desk policy where no confidential information can be viewed by the public. Whenever possible, conduct confidential discussions away from the reception desk. Notify Manager of any incident or potential incident relating to patients or staff. Participate in meetings, staff training and development and performance reviews. Photocopying Report maintenance requirements and equipment failures. Scan and allocate any incoming correspondence. Send emails and faxes. Ensure your petty cash box is locked away securely. Transfer and receive patient health records. Type correspondence when requested. Work cooperatively with GPs, nurses, management and administration staff. Medical receptionists play a key role in the successful delivery of care to patients at the practice. Our Medical Receptionists ensure that all patients receive excellent service in a professional and caring environment. They are aware that confidentiality is of utmost importance. The Medical Receptionists work collaboratively with GPs, Practice Sisters and Nurses, Allied Health Professionals, Specialists, Management, and other Medical Receptionists. Other duties as assigned. Competencies / Skills: Ability to remain calm in a stressful environment Ability to work in a changing environment Current Driver’s license Knowledge of the POPI Act (The Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013) Outstanding telephone manner Excellent verbal and written communication Relevant computer skills Knowledge of medical software Previous experience in the medical field Effective communication with staff, doctors and patients Excellent time management skills Problem solving withing the parameters of the job description Ability to protect confidentiality and patient privacy at all times Excellent team working ability Ability to work independently Ability to multi-task Flexibility Professionalism Apply Now
