Minimum Qualifications: Prefer a Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, with 2 years professional experience. A valid Florida driver's license is required once employee begins work. Description of Position: The Wildlife Impact Management Section is seeking an energetic and motivated candidate to act as an Education and Outreach Specialist for the Nonnative Fish and Wildlife Program (NFWP). The incumbent will assist with development and implementation of education and outreach materials and projects for the NFWP. Primary duties will include leading internal and external trainings related to nonnative fish and wildlife, creating presentations on nonnative species, assisting with outreach and education special events/ workshops, conducting Python Patrol trainings in-person and virtually, and addressing correspondence with the public, through email and phone correspondence, and "Ask FWC" public correspondence. This position will have the opportunity to develop methods of public engagement and reach new audiences through creative and innovative programs and materials using PowerPoint, Canva or similar platforms, and conducting other outreach projects. Strong interpersonal skills, presentation skills, computer skills and creativity are desired for many aspects of this position. Primary duties will include: Staffing educational booths and providing presentations at events, festivals, and other appropriate venues and helping the Coordinator track staff and public attendance at these events; Providing educational materials and presentations to the FWC staff including Law Enforcement, partner agencies, the public, and other wildlife professionals; Conducting Python Patrol trainings in virtual and in-person formats; Preparing educational and outreach activities, workshops and trainings pertaining to nonnative fish and wildlife issues; Serving on committees and teams as appropriate and attending meetings and workshops; Providing appropriate responses to the public regarding nonnative fish and wildlife management questions through email, AskFWC or tracker public correspondence, over the phone, or in-person; Responding to requests for educational and outreach activities and trainings on nonnative wildlife issues; Leading or assisting the development of the Nonnative Fish and Wildlife Program's annual report; Assisting in the development and implementation of new and innovative outreach programs, initiatives and educational materials to engage the public in invasive species control and management; Purchasing educational materials when necessary, including printing, and maintaining inventory of these items; Responding to other wildlife conflict issues as needed. Additional duties will include: Assisting the Nonnative Fish and Wildlife Program with: Ensuring documents, photos, and web content are compliant with The Americans with Disabilities Act standards; Organizing and maintaining NFWP digital file storage Conducting independent projects designed to further the agency's Wildlife Impact Management (WIM) education programs; Assisting with other needs of the WIM Section as needed; Conduct other activities and tasks as necessary to support other HSC staff in the region; The incumbent is also responsible for other miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor. This position will include extensive driving throughout Florida to attend or host events, festivals, meetings, workshops and to engage with partners. Must be able to work independently and have an ability to effectively communicate with a variety of audiences. It is expected that all FWC employees courteously assist Commission constituents to resolve questions or problems they may have on matters relating to the Commission, its programs, or fish and wildlife conservation in general; and garner public support for agency objectives and programs by serving Florida's citizens in a positive and proactive manner. Knowledge, skills and abilities required for the position: Knowledge of the biological sciences and scientific principles of wildlife biology, ecology, and conservation; Extensive experience with public speaking and creation of presentations; Experience handling fish and wildlife, including herpetological species; Demonstrated skill in excellent customer service; Ability to multi-task and work independently in a fast-paced work environment and adhere to time constraints and deadlines; Ability to review and edit documents and presentations to agency standards; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with public or stakeholder representatives; Ability to generate ideas for public engagement and develop those into action items; Computer experience (MS Word, Excel, Outlook PowerPoint, Adobe). Desired qualifications include: Familiarity with Florida's nonnative species issues; Experience with Canva or similar design programs Ability to identify native and nonnative fish and wildlife; Ability to properly and safely handle nonnative fish and wildlife; Familiarity with document accessibility using Adobe Acrobat Pro DC; Ability to travel up to 25%.
