Plant Engineer - Pretoria

Role Purpose

The Plant Engineers main role is to support and participate in the implementation and execution of the Plant asset maintenance programme aimed to eliminate unplanned stops and optimise maintenance cost and as a result increase Plant efficiency.

Top Accountabilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for but not limited to the following job functions:

  • Formulation of the Plant engineering strategy and implementation thereof.
  • Design and implement effective asset care practices for the Plant.
  • Actively participate in maintenance routines to ensure that maintenance activities are scheduled and executed in time with high quality.
  • Support and participate in the implementation maintenance methodologies.
  • Master and coach breakdown analysis.
  • Responsible to ensure effective utilization of AMM system.
  • Provide input for annual maintenance budget, reports and track the maintenance budget.
  • Build up maintenance methodologies competencies within Engineering.
  • Develop engineering skills in conjunction with Plant Management.
  • Assist with the technical training program for all Plant maintenance staff.
  • Support production to eliminate quality defects, safety risks and chronic technical issues.
  • Support and participate in the implementation of applicable standards.
  • Continuously identify, review, and apply appropriate technological innovation for the business.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable standards in the area of responsibility.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering (mechanical, industrial, manufacturing, or electrical) or equivalent tertiary qualification.
  • Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) certification.
  • Minimum three (3) years experience in engineering management (maintenance, industrial, services, E&A), preferably in a FMCG related manufacturing environment.
  • Wiremans License.
  • MV switching certification (advantageous).
  • Good knowledge of Asset maintenance.
  • Good knowledge of AMM system (SAP PM module).
  • Knowledge of TPM methodology preferred.
  • Experience working in multifunctional team (i.e. capital projects) preferred.
  • Experience in fault finding on letter logic (advantageous).
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience on high speed packing machines, MV switching, electrical stators, VSD & servo drive systems.
  • Experience in managing electrical compliance onsite.
  • Updating of Site Master Plans.
  • Methodical problem-solving ability.
  • Working knowledge of SHEQ and manufacturing systems.
  • Should exhibit a mature disposition.
  • High level of integrity.
  • Demonstrable high organising ability, good negotiation skills and bias for action.
