Primary Health Care Nurse (NIMART 6 Months Sessional Contract Wits Ezintsha) - Johannesburg

Main purpose of the job:

  • To provide holistic and evidence-based nursing care that is patient-centered, based on approved treatment protocols, and in compliance with all applicable legislation to optimize quality of life

Location:

  • Ezintsha, Parktown – Johannesburg

Key performance areas:

  • Assess, plan, and provide patient-centered nursing care using appropriate nursing frameworks, ensuring adherence to guidelines
  • Perform nursing interventions safely whilst showing effective time management skills
  • Monitor, and evaluate the effectiveness of the patient management plan and refer accordingly
  • Maintain clear, concise, timely, accurate, and current electronic patient records following all applicable legal and ethical guidelines
  • Develop innovative approaches to problem-solving and utilize the skills of other interdisciplinary team members to coordinate and resolve problems to meet patient needs
  • Provide a high standard of clinical skill which may include but not be limited to; chronic disease management and health promotion
  • Ensure all customer interaction (Both internal and external customers) is of the highest professional level
  • Serve as backup for the management of the patient booking system including reminding patients of their appointments in advance
  • Oversee the ordering and management of clinical equipment and consumables
  • Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrate effective self-management
  • Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained

Required minimum education and training:

  • Diploma/Degree in Nursing
  • Post-basic qualification in Clinical Nursing Science: Health Assessment, Treatment, and Care (PHC, Dispensing license, and NIMART training)

Required minimum work experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of work experience as a Primary Health Care Nurse
  • Microsoft Office Experience

Professional body registration:

  • SANC

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:

  • Sound experience in the management of communicable and non-communicable diseases within the legislated scope of practice
  • Be an advocate for patients and ensure the provision of quality Health Care
  • Good interpersonal, planning, organizational skills, and computer literacy (MS Office)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of the Nursing Act, Medicines Control Act, Mental Health Care Act, and other relevant legislation
  • Tactful, helpful, honest, and professional
  • Able to maintain confidentiality
  • Able to work independently and as a part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Self-motivated, innovative, and pro-active with a high regard for work ethic, values, and integrity
