Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems (South Africa) has an exciting opportunity for a Production/Operations Manager. The successful candidate will be managing all aspects of the Production, Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, Projects, People, Cost & Safety. The person will be responsible for setting strategic & operational objectives of production as well as ensuring production KPA's are being successfuly maintained. The candidate has to be self-motivated and highly skilled in the Automotive Industry, preferably in Wire Harness Manufacturing. Key Responsibilities but not limited to: Production/Operations Management: Overall responsibility for Production, Engineering, Planning, Maintenance, Quality Control, Cost Control, Safety & Risk Management and Project Management. Production Planning and Execution: Develop production plans and schedules in alignment with customer demand and company objectives. Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth execution of production activities. Team Leadership and Development: Lead and mentor a diverse team of production supervisors, technicians, and operators. Provide guidance, support, and training to optimize team performance and foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration. Resource Allocation and Optimization: Allocate resources, including manpower, equipment, and materials, effectively to meet production targets while minimizing waste and maximizing efficiency. Identify opportunities for process optimization and implement solutions to enhance productivity. Quality Assurance: Implement quality control measures and inspection processes to maintain high standards of product quality and compliance with industry regulations. Address any quality issues promptly and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence. Implement and maintain quality control measures to ensure that wire harnesses meet industry standards and customer specifications. Establish and monitor quality assurance procedures throughout the production process. Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies. Promote a culture of safety awareness and adherence to best practices to minimize workplace accidents and ensure the well-being of all employees. Continuous Improvement Initiatives: Drive continuous improvement initiatives to streamline production processes, reduce cycle times, and increase overall efficiency. Implement lean manufacturing principles and methodologies to eliminate waste and optimize resource utilization. Develop, implement, and optimize operational strategies to enhance productivity and engineering activities, manage staff, asset management, optimize maintenance activities, minimize downtime, reduce costs, and manage risk. Coordinate with cross-functional teams to address operational challenges and improve workflow efficiency Provide leadership and guidance to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Overall, very high focus in managing Safety & Risk, People, Quality, Productivity, Costs and Projects. Production Engineering: Manage all Projects and Optimization activities, collaborate with engineering teams to design and implement efficient manufacturing processes. Continuously evaluate and optimize manufacturing processes to improve quality, reduce waste, and increase output. Implement innovative techniques and technologies to enhance production capabilities and competitiveness. Maintenance: Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to ensure the reliability and longevity of production equipment. Coordinate maintenance activities to minimize downtime and maximize equipment uptime. Establish relationships with equipment suppliers and service providers to ensure timely support and maintenance. Oversee the maintenance and repair of production equipment to minimize downtime and ensure optimal performance. Lead and manage projects related to process improvement, capacity expansion, and technology integration Develop project plans, allocate resources, and monitor project progress to ensure timely completion within budgetary constraints. Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to identify project requirements and deliverables. Inventory Management: Oversee inventory levels and implement inventory control measures to optimize stock levels, minimize stockouts, and reduce excess inventory. Coordinate with procurement and logistics teams to ensure efficient supply chain management. Safety & Risk Management: Develop and enforce safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all employees. Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify and mitigate potential hazards. Implement risk management strategies to minimize operational risks and ensure regulatory compliance. Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor production performance and track progress against targets. Analyze production data, identify trends, and prepare regular reports for senior management to facilitate decision-making. Cost Management: Monitor production costs and identify opportunities to reduce expenses while maintaining quality standards. Implement cost-saving initiatives. Prepare, manage, and participate in budget planning and forecasting processes. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred. Proven experience in manufacturing management, preferably in the automotive industry. Strong technical knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, and technologies. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Experience with lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies. Knowledge of quality management systems (e.g., ISO standards) and health and safety regulations. Proficiency in data analysis and reporting using manufacturing software tools. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and lead teams to achieve manufacturing goals Project Management (Advantageous). Proven experience in wire harness manufacturing within the automotive industry, with at least 5 years in a managerial role. In-depth knowledge of lean manufacturing, production processes, equipment, and technologies related to wire harness manufacturing. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively manage teams and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders. Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving operational challenges. Knowledge with industry regulations, quality standards, and safety requirements applicable to automotive manufacturing. Deadline driven, knowledge and understanding of labour laws and legal and statutory compliance requirements. Proficiency in preparation and presentation of reports and high level of computer literacy. Skills Required Computer Literate (Intermediate). Use of Measuring Equipment. Good Communication Skills (verbal & written). Strong Interpersonal & People Management Skills (Analytical, Problem-Solving, & Decision-Making skills. Ability to work well in a team.
