Quality Engineer- Automotive - Johannesburg
PURPOSE:
Appraise, support and improve quality in the plant to ensure that the product meets customer requirements (both internal and external) at each stage of its Manufacturing process, carrying out relevant testing, appraising and where necessary take corrective action to rectify non-conformance issues, report and action quality issues, data and ensuring the Business Management System is adhered to.
MAJOR TASKS:
- Supervise Quality Team Quality inspector / Rotational production line monitors / Visual inspector (9 people)
- Support Plant staff on quality issues.
- Ensure that all audits Product, process, internal system and supplies are conducted as per audit schedule.
- Follow up and close out all audit findings and report to Quality Manager monthly
- Inspection of all components and all stages of the manufacturing processes.
- Ensure compliance, implementation, improvement and assist with adherence to the Business Management System (IATF 16949 / ISO 9001 / VDA 6.3)
- Implement continuous improvement on business management system
- Conduct periodic testing of "Challenge Parts" / Boundary Samples and create new samples as required.
- Conduct Periodic and adhoc quality evaluation with GHQ. Sampling and testing
- Compile and analyse production data (Daily and monthly reports.)
- Daily and monthly scrap reporting and monitoring.
- Forward monthly reports as required by GHQ to Quality Manager
- Review corporate quality requirements and implementing what is relevant to production.
- Conduct Measurement System Analysis (MSA)
- Ensure all quality tools, instruments, equipment & gauges are calibrated and compliant. (Internal & External)
- Ensure correct and approved service providers are used for external calibration.
- Train and develop all plant staff using quality instrumentation and tooling and processes thereof.
- Train all staff on quality material (policies, quality fraud, visual instructions and documents)
- Manage and facilitate Core Tools with core team
- Manage and facilitate Nittoku Way dialogue with all production staff
- Maintain and facilitate Quality Circles with all production staff
- Support staff on OEM online business management systems (VW B2B) regarding Quality requirements.
- OEM customer support (VW).
- Creation and updating of all production Bill of Materials (BOMs)
- Creation of all new AX Bill of Material specification forms for input into AX by finance department
- Review and Manage manufacturing master drawings and specifications to ensure build standard control is maintained
- Ensure compliance to corporate quality and manufacturing specifications.
- Liaise with sister manufacturing companies on quality matters
- Assist with new product testing and introduction.
- Performs quality assurance functions to monitor and report on product and process capability.
- Compiles and reviews statistical data (SPC & processes).
- Contribute to continuous improvement activities and Lean Manufacturing
- Raise appropriate and relevant internal corrective actions.
- Raise appropriate and relevant quality awareness.
- Manage, monitor test room and measuring equipment.
- To ensure that high standards of safety, housekeeping and cleaning of department.
- To carry out other duties when the need arises or requested.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- 5 -10 yrs. Quality experience in the automotive industry.
- Understanding of PPAP, APQP, FMEA, Control Plans and Flow charts.
- Understanding of IATF 16949, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 9001, VDA 6.3
- Knowledge of measurement.
- Understanding of engineering drawings.
- Understanding manufacturing processes.
- Analytical skills (analyse and interpret data).
- Decision-making.
- Report writing.
- Time management.
- Computer literate Microsoft office / Google suite
