Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems (South Africa) has an exciting new opportunity for a Quality Engineer, in a Wire Harness Manufacturing environment. You will be overseeing and ensuring the highest standards of product quality, process efficiency, and compliance within the automotive industry. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of quality management systems, quality engineering and supervision along with strong leadership skills. The candidate will be responsible for new product introductions & projects as well as work closely with production, logistics, supply chain, finance & quality department to identify areas for improvement, implement quality standards, and ensure compliance with industry regulations and customer requirements. Key Responsibilities but not limited to: Quality/Engineering/Systems: Develop, implement, and maintain quality control procedures and standards for wire harness manufacturing processes. Conduct regular inspections and audits to monitor product quality and identify areas for improvement. Analyze quality data and metrics to identify trends, root causes of defects, and opportunities for corrective actions. Supervise Quality Department. Establish and enforce quality checkpoints throughout the production process to ensure compliance with specifications and standards. Perform incoming, in-process, and final product inspections to verify conformance to customer requirements and industry standards. Document and report non-conformities, deviations, and quality issues, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to address them promptly. Implement and maintain a robust quality management system in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO/TS 16949, 9001 & 14001). Ensure compliance with customer-specific quality requirements and facilitate customer audits and assessments. Continuously improve the effectiveness of the QMS through internal audits, management reviews, and corrective/preventive actions. Collaborate with procurement and supplier management teams to establish quality requirements for raw materials, components, and outsourced processes. Conduct supplier audits and assessments to evaluate compliance with quality standards and contractual requirements. Work closely with suppliers to address quality issues, implement corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to optimize manufacturing processes and improve product quality, reliability, and efficiency. Lead or participate in cross-functional teams to implement process improvements, including root cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventive measures. Utilize quality tools and methodologies such as APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, and Statistical Process Control (SPC) to drive continuous improvement initiatives. Manage and maintain Environmental, Health & Safety and Project Management aspects of the company. Training and Development: Provide training and guidance to quality assurance personnel and production operators on quality standards, procedures, and best practices. Foster a culture of quality consciousness and continuous improvement throughout the organization. Develop and implement training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of quality assurance personnel and production operators. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of quality inspections, test results, and non-conformities. Generate quality reports and metrics to track performance, trends, and areas for improvement. Communicate quality issues, trends, and improvement opportunities to management and stakeholders. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field; certification in quality management is a plus. Minimum 5 years proven experience in quality engineering or quality management roles within the automotive or manufacturing industry. Skills: Strong understanding of quality management systems, standards (e.g., ISO/TS 16949, 9001 & 14001), and regulatory requirements applicable to automotive manufacturing. Proficiency in quality tools and methodologies such as APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, and Statistical Process Control (SPC). Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and motivate teams to achieve quality objectives and drive continuous improvement. Proficiency in relevant software applications (e.g., MS Office, statistical analysis software) and quality management systems (e.g., ERP, QMS). High Attention to detail.
