The Head of Projects will be an exceptional hands-on Project Manager and have strong management and leadership skills as the Head of the Project management team. Responsibilities will include; being a point of escalation, helping to mitigate project risks, actively managing own project portfolio, engaging with suppliers and partners to ensure the smooth project delivery, helping to build key, long lasting relationships and escalating and promptly resolving any service affecting issues which may arise. Job Title: Head of Projects (Telecommunications) Location: JHB – Northern Suburbs Reference: PE009698-Tabz-1 Job Summary: The position is JHB based, managing a team of Projects Managers – 4 in JHB , 1 in Cape Town, 1 in UK, 1 in the Netherlands. Duties & Responsibilities: Key stakeholder Relationship: Internal Heads of Sales Global Operations Network Core Quality Assurance Procurement Supply Chain Commercial Finance NOC Technical External Suppliers Customers Experience & Qualifications: Minimum Qualification: Diploma in PMP Relevant Degree ITIL Foundation Agile, Lean Minimum Experience: Minimum of 5 years management of projects and project teams Should be from a Telco environment. LAN & Cisco WAN skills and knowledge & Cisco routing and switching knowledge mandatory. Worked on projects in heterogenous technical and telco environments. Worked with multicultural and diverse teams across Africa / other geographic regions. Experienced in influencing at senior stakeholder level with decision makers and directors. Effective collaborative working at a senior level, at times assisting and working alongside the VP. Able to build strong relationships and credibility with customers and both internally and externally Other Requirements: Must be willing to work weekends shifts on a monthly basis or after hours Key Performance Areas & Indicators: MANAGE PROJECTS: Tasks Ensure adherence to agreed project management methodology Manage the execution of strategic projects or programs Mitigate / remove blockage that prevent the Projects team successfully completing their jobs Setup a project communication strategy Ensure the provisioning and administration is well controlled Adhere to commercial governance in all activities Develop and implement business processes and procedures CUSTOMER SERVICE: Tasks Build strong relationships and credibility with customers, internally and external Provide feedback regarding project or program status Handle and resolve escalations MANANGE HUMAN RESOURCES: Tasks Maintain a proactive and positive team ethos Ensure team have the relevant skills, training and accreditations Review performance in discussion with employees, agree ratings and set goals for new period Communicate and provide relevant feedback with team members Apply disciplinary action, when and if required Develop formal succession plan for key positions INTERNAL CO-ORDINATION : Tasks Identify, manage and communicate program risks, issues and overall program progress to Heads of Department Run project management meetings within Project department Ensure a smooth handover from Sales to Projects and then from Projects to Support MANAGEMENT REPORTING: Tasks Create Weekly and Monthly departmental reports as and when required Competency requirements for position: KNOWLEDGE: Thorough understanding of networks in the telecommunications industry Thorough knowledge of PMBOK Knowledge of customer service principles Understanding of all applicable employment legislation SKILLS: Can do attitude, delivers, drives company to succeed.
