The primary job purpose of a Refrigeration Specialist is to ensure the optimal performance, safety, and reliability of refrigeration systems. This involves the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of refrigeration equipment to prevent downtime and ensure efficient operation. The specialist must comply with all relevant regulations and standards, provide high-quality service to our Hypercheck stores, and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the refrigeration systems in our stores. Installation and Maintenance Install refrigeration systems and equipment as per manufacturer guidelines and South African standards Perform scheduled maintenance to ensure optimal performance of refrigeration systems, including cleaning coils, checking refrigerant levels, and inspecting for leaks. Setting up refrigeration systems according to the specifications and local codes to ensure they function correctly from the start. Performing regular checks and preventive maintenance tasks to keep systems running smoothly and to extend their lifespan. Repairs: Diagnose and troubleshoot refrigeration system issues using specialized tools and diagnostic equipment. Repair or replace faulty components such as compressors, evaporators, motors, and thermostats. Inspections: Conduct routine inspections to detect potential problems early and ensure compliance with safety regulations Ensure all refrigeration systems comply with South African health and safety standards. Documentation: Maintain detailed records of all maintenance and repair activities. Prepare and submit reports on system performance, repairs, and maintenance activities. Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and environmental regulations related to refrigeration systems. Stay updated with South African regulations regarding refrigerants and environmental safety. Ensure all work complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other relevant legislation. Customer Service: Communicate effectively with stores and Facility manager regarding system issues and solutions. Provide recommendations for system improvements and upgrades. Providing clear communication, professional service, and informed recommendations to the stores regarding their refrigeration needs. QUALIFICATIONS Matric (Senior Certificate) Technical diploma or certificate in Refrigeration, HVAC, or a related field is preferred. Valid Refrigeration Trade Test Certificate. Additional certifications, such as the Safe Handling of Refrigerants (SAQCC Gas), are advantageous. Must have a valid Code 10 License. EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS Minimum of 3 years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration systems. Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and manuals.
