CAREER OPPORTUNITY This career opportunity is available at Santam Specialist Business,Agriculture Business Unit, for the Manager: Regional Underwriter West,who will be based in Bloemfontein. WHAT WILL YOU DO? Assume overall responsibility of technical support to Distribution within the specific region in respect of Underwriting, Risk selection and Claims Assessments for the Crop portfolio with the explicit goal to support profitable growth in the agriculture market segment. WHAT WILL MAKE YOU SUCCESSFUL IN THE ROLE? Implementation and management of underwriting policy/Rules Risk management Audits on Claims, assessments and MPCI reports Support to product maintenance and enhancement Assume overall responsibility in the region for the quality of all loss assessments, training of permanent & part-time assessors on technical aspects as well as assessment procedures and reports Build and maintain loss assessment capability in the region that is sufficient to service the business at all time. Support with complex claims and assessment Responsible for re-assessments Manage and co-ordinates assessments during catastrophes Support to Research – evaluation and testing of assessment rules and guidelines Responsible for control assessment Represent region on the Underwriters & Insurance Support Meetings Assist in the development and maintenance of risk management solutions for the agricultural market. Analysing local, national, and global trends that impact both the organization and the industry Involved in the development and maintenance of risk management solutions. E.g., Minimum and maximus, e.g. excess options in certain areas. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Technical underwriting skills in crop insurance General and strategic management Organisational and analytical skills Ability to cope with conflict Verbal, written and interpersonal communication Efficient resources utilisation Employee development and performance quality management Underwriting principals and insurance knowledge Data mining & interpretation skills Leadership skills Presentation skills Planning skills Problem-solving skills Proficiency in Excel to be used for data set analyzing.
