Requirements: Current registration as registered nurse with SANC. Geriatric experience. Palliative care experience. Comprehensive clinical knowledge, particularly to age related health issues. Understanding of and commitment to continuous quality improvements. Computer literate MS Office. Language: English/Afrikaans, isiXhosa advantageous Ability to practice and manage workloads according to resident’s needs. Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Ability to establish and maintain professional and appropriate relationships with residents, their families and representatives. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage care staff. Responsibilities and expectations but not limited to: Work collaboratively with the Care Manager and the Interdisciplinary Care Team Provide quality nursing services to residents in accordance with policies and procedures, SANC code standards, code of ethics and professional conduct. Provide direct resident care and nursing services congruent with recognised nursing practice and procedure by carrying out a comprehensive and accurate nursing assessment of individuals and groups. General Nursing: Formulate a plan of care for each resident with the primary aim of providing optimal quality of life for the residents. Coordinate and maintain the planning, implementation, and evaluation of care services for the residents. Maintaining accurate and legally appropriate documentation of nursing services Accept accountability and responsibility of nursing services provided by complying with: Company policies and procedures Regulation and legal guidelines and requirements Ensuring the consistent application of company policy framework by self and others Other care-related duties as directed by the manager of the Care manager. Staff Management: In collaboration with the Care Manager effectively manage staff services that support resident daily living requirements by: Being a positive role model to EN’s, ENA’s and care workers Providing direction and supervision to all reporting staff Assisting with orientation of new staff and facilitating their ongoing with knowledge development Assisting staff to identify individual learning requirements and facilitating opportunities for staff development. Providing training and development opportunities for staff to improve job skills and effectiveness. Resident Care: Provide support and assistance to maintain high quality, holistic and person-centred care services for residents by: Active involvement in the identification and implementation of continuous quality improvement initiatives Reviewing and assessing current methodologies, identifying, and implementing strategies for better care service provision Actively participating in and contributing to organisational meetings Ensure professional and articulate communication by: Positively interacting with staff members, residents, and their families Ensuring that the management team is suitably informed of any relevant issues. Ensuring that the Care Manager is informed of any resident incidents. In the absence of the Care Manager or more senior staff, assume responsibility for continuing service provision at the facility and respond to any emergencies. Quality and Safety: Maintain a safe work environment in accordance with company health and safety policies and procedures. Assist with and support the ongoing maintenance of a safe working environment. Identify and report hazards in the workplace. Privacy and Confidentiality: Apply the principals of privacy and confidentiality in all work practices. Maintain a duty of confidentiality to all staff, residents, and clients. General Duties and Responsibilities: Be empathetic and courteous to residents and their relatives, always treating them with care and consideration. Participate fully in the performance management process and undertake Continuing Professional Development as required. Maintain contemporary professional knowledge and skills in clinical competency through participation in self-development activities/ programs including. Attending educational workshops and training Reviewing professional publications Establishing personal networks Benchmarking state-of-the-art practices Participating in professional societies Achieve and demonstrate agreed standards of personal and professional development within agreed timescales.
