A vacancy exists in the Technical department of Bravo Group Manufacturing at BBSD Head Office - Johannesburg, for the following position: Research and Development Manager. KEY OBJECTIVES (JOB/WHY DOES THE POSITION EXIST?) Lead and oversee research and development efforts to drive innovation and product development within a national manufacturing company, while also managing best supplier relationships and advising on procurement strategies. Develop and implement R&D strategies aligned with company goals Support Director in managing the R&D team, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations Oversee research projects from conceptualization to product launch Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Production, Marketing) to ensure successful implementation of new products Monitor industry trends and competitor activities to identify opportunities and determine and execute improved technologies used by suppliers, competitors, and customers. Manage R&D budget and resources efficiently Ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality standards Present R&D progress and results to senior management Idea generation, research, planning, product costing and raw material sourcing Identify and evaluate alternative for raw material and components suppliers, both within South Africa and internationally, to optimize cost and quality Conduct thorough assessments of potential suppliers, considering factors such as production capacity, quality control processes, and delivery reliability Collaborate with the Procurement department to establish and maintain relationships with high-quality, cost-effective suppliers Stay informed about global market trends and supply chain dynamics that may impact material sourcing and product development Develop in-depth knowledge of procurement processes and best practices Provide strategic recommendations to senior management on procurement decisions, supplier selection, and R&D initiatives Conduct cost-benefit analyses for new materials, technologies, or suppliers Collaborate with the Procurement department to optimize purchasing strategies Matric / NQF level 4 Degree in a relevant field (e.g., Engineering, Materials Science, Supply Chain Management) Certification in procurement or supply chain management (e.g.,SAPICS) would be advantageous BEHAVIOURAL DIMENSIONS REQUIRED Initiative - Achieves goals beyond the job requirements.
