Formal Education and Experience Required: Matric Essential (with Mathematics as a higher-grade subject) Qualification in business, management and/or marketing would be advantageous but not essential. Own transport essential Must reside in close proximity to the store. Minimum 5 years retail FMCG experience essential. Responsibilities: Sustainability Operate the floor departments in a manner that ensures sales growth and profitability. Drive sales, maximize gross profit, control expenses, and manage ratios. Able to read, understand and analyse reports. Must be able to think analytically seeks reports that are available, or design reports based on information required. read and analyse reports and thereafter. make educated and calculated decisions based on what the reports/information is indicating. Must have a passion for using information to make decisions that drives the business forward. Must be confident in setting themself and their team timelines and targets and executing in a manner that ensures these are met. Effective communication with store manager. Innovation: It is imperative that the store manager is in touch with and understands modern technology, to drive the business forward. Customers It is vitally important that the floor manager truly understands our customer and the market we operate in. As an upmarket store serving a high LSM customer the floor manager must be in touch with the market to ensure that we are the leaders and first to be in stock with new range. It is important that the floor manager constantly evaluates who the target market is, and ensures that our offering is tailored made to service these customers' needs and wants (range/quality etc. etc.) The floor manager needs to be the face of the store together with the store manager. They need to be approachable and relatable not only with customers, but with staff and suppliers. They need to be respected as someone who will listen to concerns and execute solutions. Staff The group recognizes that staff are both our greatest asset and defining offering. However, at the same time, they are the largest expense that we have the ability to manage through scheduling, productivity and development. The floor manager is responsible for all aspects of people management within the floor departments, and it is critical that any potential candidate is passionate and has an exemplary skill set in this area. The total store staff compliment for the floor departments is about - 60 staff which includes supervisors and normal staff. Given the size and complexity of the store, it is imperative that the floor manager is a born leader and possess the ability to manage staff in a manner that ensures their growth/motivation and delivery. Some key competencies required: Employ, develop, train, and retain staff to ensure improved performance of both the individual, the team and as a result; the business. Lead by example and demonstrate that all decisions and actions are done in terms of what is right for the store/business and not what is best for the individual. Ensure staff understand and adhere to the group's disciplines, controls, procedures, rules and regulations (DCP's and R&R's) Actively contribute towards the development and motivation of all staff members, to create a happy and content workforce. To hold total floor department and team meetings, as required and to demonstrate an effective and clear communication ability, whilst fully understanding that different levels of staff will require a different technique and approach when communicating. ▪ This communication needs to be done with intention to persuade and influence the staff to operate in line with the groups Purpose and in compliance with DCP's and R&R's. Included within the people management function, will be the responsibility of disciplinary procedures. The store floor manager must be confident and knowledgeable in this area, and utilizing group resources, ensure that disciplinary enquiries, hearings and dismissals are carried out in an effective and legislation compliant manner as and when required. Other areas of responsibility the floor manager needs to be able to find the balance between being outgoing and having a presence on the shop floor with regards to customers and staff and be able to prioritize administrative and planning deliverables. This may result in overtime being worked, to ensure all aspects receive the appropriate attention. Floor manager needs to be confident in making change, and driving the business and store forward, however these decisions need to be based on facts and be well thought out, and in line with the group strategy, purpose and values. The single most important part of the Floor managers role is that he is a huge support to the store manager and that he runs this ½ of the store on his own allowing the store manager time to focus on the business. The ideal candidate for this role will be an individual who has the ability and know how of managing a staff of 60 staff member and to be able to identify with the target market.
