Rock Engineering Manager - Phakisa - Free State Listing reference: hgld_000160 Listing status: Online Apply by: 5 April 2024 Position summary Industry: Mining & Quarrying Job category: Drilling Location: Bloemfontein Contract: Permanent Remuneration: Market Related EE position: No Introduction Rock Engineering Manager Carry the legal appointment for the shaft in terms of sect 14.1(6) and 141(8) of the MH&S Actin (1996) and rendering a specialist service to the Mancom team Compile, update and amend the COP in combating rock fall- and rock burst accidents according to the latest regulatory mandate/guidelines set out by DMRE. Ensure compliance with the operation COP in combating rock falls and rock bursts accidents Apply rock engineering principles and best practice to the life of mine of the operation to ensure the production capability and capacity of the shaft is safely optimised Manage and oversee Rock Eng department by establishing their KPIs and overseeing delivery and quality of their work Scrutinize and assist in developing the life of mine plans from a production and safety perspective, including studies into life of mine extension Ensure that the underground workings and infrastructure are routinely assessed by competent persons as per COP and that all rock eng principles have been considered, ensuring underground activities are conducted as safely as practicable from a rock mass stability point of view Ensure adequate coverage, sensitivity, accuracy, maintenance and expansion of the seismic network as required by the operations COP Develop, implement, monitor and ensure compliance to formal routines or expectations and optimize all systems related to Rock Eng department Liaise with relevant stakeholders, regarding Rock Eng related matters. Remain up to date with the latest geotechnical developments by regularly attending ANIRE meetings, functions and workshops Minimum requirements Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 (Maths and Science) Certificate in Rock Engineering (Metalliferous) issued by the Minerals Council of South Africa Tertiary (Bachelors) Degree or advanced Rock Engineering Certificate issued by the Minerals Council of South Africa Minimum of 3 years' geotechnical experience working at a mine/s of similar depth or similar geotechnical risk Experience in mine seismicity and the geotechnical interpretation thereof for excavation stability Experience in the interpretation of numerical modelling results for excavation stability SANIRE Membership (professional body for Rock Engineers) Experience working in a Mining environment Medical Certificate of Fitness Computer Literacy (including use of Word, Excel & Power Point) Fluency in both verbal and written English is essential Internal candidates to complete the internal Job application form with HR as acknowledgement from HOD on application. Skills and personality traits: Accuracy Analytical Decisiveness Ethical Innovative Logical thinking Meticulous Reliable Advantageous: 5 Years' or more geotechnical experience working at a mine/s of similar depth or similar geotechnical risk Postgraduate Degree (Honours or.higher) in a relevant field such as Mine Engineering, Geology or Physics Advanced Rock Engineering Certificate issued by the Minerals Council of South Africa Experience in project management, including related software (e.g. MS Projects) Experience in the use of mine seismicity visualization- and analytical software (e.g. IMS Vantage, IMS Ticker and IMS Synapse) Experience in the use of CAD-type software of mine layout/design visualization and drafting (e.g. MicroStation, Deswik) Apply Now
