The Role The Senior Business Developer will oversee all aspects of the business development process and lead the development and growth of profitable new business and develop and maintain key business relationships in diverse markets. The role will interact closely with external stakeholders and manage the internal stakeholders from project initiation to commercial approval through the execution of project management tools/skill set. The Senior Business Developer will support the Group companies with building pipeline opportunities for existing businesses and exploring new markets (Development of future businesses), project management of opportunities and client-relationship management as required. The role will report directly to the Business Development Executive. Job Responsibilities Stakeholder Management Develop and build government and regulatory body relationships, at municipal, provincial and national level to increase support and scope of participation for all PEG companies in projects. Manage relationships with key partners across the private and public sectors and academia. Manage existing customer relationships and ensure continuing and increased profitability across the portfolio. Analyze and prepare due diligence for new opportunities and activities. Scrutinize the market to elucidate clients' needs, competitors' activities, and promising avenues that have not yet been explored. Represent the company at industry events and identify and cultivate important new partners. Work with the management team to ensure relationships are formed within new and existing clients and stakeholders at the appropriate levels. Negotiate contracts and support the transition from client acquisition to project delivery phase Finance and Revenue Generation Support the existing profit centers team in identifying and closing both project and corporate financing for all work. Promote the products and services of the company to new and existing base. Inspect company finances to identify trends and set reasonable targets. Close new business deals including negotiations with clients and integrate contract requirements with business operations. Strategy, Processes, Reporting and Presentations Assist in formulating annual business development plans, quarterly forecasts, and monthly reports on all activities necessary to achieve the company’s objectives Leads data analysis, reporting, and knowledge management to inform business development strategy and operations Plan and execute client acquisition in line with the business development strategic plan. Provides input into bid/no-bid decisions and updates and maintains the pipeline tracker for the assigned practice Provides management, quality assurance and compliance with the client requirements on bid/capture efforts, across sectors, in the region Conducts long-term and short-term strategic research that informs the growth strategy of the assigned projects Constantly be updated on any changes in legislation within the industry to ensure solutions and strategies developed are best practice in nature and thoroughly compliant and influence the Company’s broader development agenda, appraising and evaluating investment options and change programmes. People Management Manage all staff under supervision and conduct performance and talent management activities for direct reports. Coach and mentor direct reports. Identify team members for succession pipeline and career progression. Oversee effective utilization of systems and tools to ensure that knowledge is managed efficiently for continuous improvement. Recognize and make recommendations for the reward of high performing members; respects, promotes and accepts diversity. Compliance & Governance Execute in adherence to all relevant regulatory and business practices. Active risk management by applying and promoting a culture of on-going detection and resolution of Statutory, Regulatory compliance breaches. Drive the resolution management of the identified top 5 business development risks. Requirements BA or BCom qualification in Economics, Engineering, Business Management or Sales & Marketing 6 years successful leadership experience driving business development teams to develop and secure multi-million-rand energy efficiency and renewable energy, or related, projects. Demonstrated business development and relationship management skills with ability to identify need and effectively communicate, position , negotiate and close solutions sales. Competitor and market analysis skills. Experience in sourcing, managing, and implementing new business opportunities. Ability to speak and present confidently and provide a strong sense of credibility and ability to implement. Good project and time management skills. Proven ability to analyse and quantify deferred maintenance, capital renewal and energy efficiency or sustainability needs in vertical markets. Solid understanding of structured finance concepts and vehicles such as : ROIC, NPV, financial proformas. Superior people management skills including demonstrable success with inspiring teams of sales professional to achieve annual sales plans and targets. Excellent verbal, written, technical and computer communication and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and business relationships.
