Senior Geotechnical Field Technologist - Sandton
The role of this permanent full-time position, reporting to the Senior Project Engineer, is to provide field support services for the company's existing and planned technology deployed at mining and civil engineering sites primarily in Southern Africa. The technology includes real-time monitoring systems, geotechnical monitoring projects, in-situ stress measurements and tailings dam monitoring systems. The position will be based in Sandton, Gauteng region with 4-5 days a week work on client site required. BTech Mechanical/Civil/Electrical/Industrial Engineering qualification and a minimum of 10 years relevant experience required. Requirements: At least a BTech Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Industrial) At least 10 years work experience of which a minimum of 2 years in the mining or civils industry. Project management exposure would be beneficial. Mine competencies (Competency A and B) would be beneficial. Experience working with hand tools (either at home, hobbies or in a workshop). Good computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). Driving license and own transport. Currently residing in the Johannesburg area will be preferable. Strong desire for site work, project and site management. Creative with excellent problem-solving abilities (this will be tested in the interview). Exceptional communication skills. Systematic, methodical, logical, and analytical. Working knowledge of Afrikaans would be an advantage but not essential. Prepared to be on site 3 to 4 days a week and occasionally at weekends, on public holidays and overnight. Duties: Planning and providing feedback on site visits. Liaising with clients to confirm site visits. Preparing written technical reports and diagrams after site visits. Installing many types of technology. Problem-solving on issues arising. Field testing. Workshop testing and quality assurance testing. Stock management. Basic repairs to the technology where possible. Liaison with suppliers on issues arising and repairs. Documenting standard operating procedures. Training clients and other staff in use of the technology. Creating and amending data capture forms. Completing all site and workshop documentation. Updating databases. Site management Workshop and Groundwork productive tools management including ensuring tools and equipment have necessary controls enforced; ensuring tools and equipment are properly maintained, etc. Assistance with instrumentation and equipment design and prototype development. Providing information to the sales department on technical queries. Maintaining internal tracking documents. Liaising with suppliers and managing equipment selection, fabrication, suitability, quality, cost and delivery dates.
