FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES SCHOOL OF HEALTH SYSTEMS AND PUBLIC HEALTH SENIOR LECTURER IN EPIDEMIOLOGY & BIOSTATISTICS (1 Post) The incumbent will be responsible for the following: Teaching Epidemiology and Biostatistics undergraduate and postgraduate modules for the Division of Health Measurement Sciences, SHSPH; Supervision of PhD/MSc/MPH/BSc Honours students in the fields of Epidemiology or Public Health or Health Systems in the SHSPH; Publish in Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) approved journals; Apply and secure research grants for national and international projects; Updating course content and revising study guides for modules related to epidemiology; Developing and/or Maintaining the electronic learning environment; Strengthening Health Measurement Sciences research within the SHSPH and its affiliated research centres and institutes, as well as collaborative transdisciplinary research with other disciplines within the Faculty and the University; Developing partnerships with local and international epidemiologists, biostatisticians and public health specialists for innovative research programme development; Participating in the SHSPH's strategic initiatives relating to teaching, learning and community engagement; Performing other academic and research duties as may be delegated by the Line Manager and/or the Head of School; Closing date: 23 May 2024 No application will be considered after the closing date, or if it does not comply with at least the minimum requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: PhD in Epidemiology or Public Health or Biostatistics or relevant field; Minimum five (5) accredited publications (ideally more, preferably in last 3 years and in ISI journals -some first author) Conference papers delivered; At least 2 postgraduate students supervised (completed), preferably Masters level or higher; At least 3 years' teaching experience; Course/block coordinator or equivalent; Some curriculum development/innovation; REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES): Good interpersonal and mentoring skills; Good communication skills; Detail oriented; Excellent mathematical skills; Innovation and critical thinking skills; Awareness and decision-making abilities to choose the right data and statistical methods for each task; ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES: Current NRF-rating; Experience in a leadership position; Effective grantsmanship as evidenced by secured international competitive research grant(s); Experience in the areas of global health security and/or climate change and health; Some international experience and exposure or recognition; Community engagement recommended The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
