NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (MAHIKENG CAMPUS) FACULTY OF NATURAL AND AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES SCHOOL OF PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL SCIENCES POSITION NUMBER: M000257 VACANCY: SENIOR LECTURER PEROMNES: A7 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: 6 – YEAR FIXED-TERM APPOINTMENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION To lecture undergraduate and honours modules in Physics. Carry out research in one of the Departmental research focus areas: Astrophysics/Space Science/Astronomy. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching: Facilitate and administer the learning process for students in physics modules presented by the North West University at undergraduate and post-graduate levels. Review and design academic curricula. Research: Carry out research and supervise postgraduate students. Preference will be given to Stellar Astrophysics/Exo- Planet research. Community engagement: Contribute to community engagement and be involved in the departmental administrative functions. An PhD (NQF 10) in Space Science & Astrophysics. A minimum of five (5) years' teaching experience in a tertiary education environment. At least 3 publications in peer reviewed journals with at least 1 as first author. Participation in local or international conferences. Supervision of postgraduate students. ADDED ADVANTAGE Professional registration with the South African Institute of Physics (SAIP). Membership with the South African Institute of Physics (SAIP). Supervised one (1) Master's or PhD student to completion. KEY FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (Knowledge and Skills): Effective lecturing of undergraduate and post-graduate physics theory courses at university level. The ability to carefully analyse information and use logic to address issues and problems at work. Ability to work under pressure and against tight deadlines. Good interpersonal skills. Preferably the knowledge to use a telescope. Good programming skills. KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES: The ability to adhere to rules and strictly follow work regulations. The ability to be cooperative with others, display a good-natured attitude, and encourage people to work togethe The ability to be sensitive and understanding to the needs and feelings of others. REMUNERATION The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
