INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL ADVERTISEMENT FACULTY OF NATURAL SCIENCES DEPARTMENT OF APPLIED SCIENCES Applications are hereby invited for the following position SENIOR LECTURER (PERMANENT) PEROMNES: P7 Reference No: WSU-BCC-FNS 04/2024/02 Learning and Teaching Teaching and learning experience with an ability to lecture the following subjects at institutions of higher learning: Inorganic Chemistry; Chemical Quality Assurance; and Physics Ability to teach at all levels and supervise research projects Manage experiential Training of 3rd year students. Contribute towards the development and implementation of a WSU and Faculty teaching and learning strategy Renew and develop the curriculum to align it with emerging needs of society Preparing course outlines and student guides for students and lecturers. Develop student-centered teaching methodologies Improve assessment practices to meet external standards Promote greater interaction with industry, business, and government to improve teaching and learning Continually improve and enhance the academic support systems for students Undertake a planned and regular schedule of evaluative surveys Regularise a quality review process for all academic Walter Sisulu University programmes Research Contribute towards the development and implementation of a WSU and Faculty research strategy Initiate research, community engagement and seminar activities. Develop research projects Identify suitable candidates to participate in research projects Draw up performance plans for research teams Manage research projects to achieve objectives Participate in generation of Research publications. Participate in Research Fundraising Commercialization of research output Research capacity building Provide research mentoring and coaching to junior staff and postgraduate students. Post Graduate supervision Coach/mentor researchers in view of promoting high performance levels in post-graduate supervision Supervise postgraduate students studying towards obtaining a qualification Act as external examiner for post graduate thesis Ensure that researchers keep abreast with the current research standards. Other Community engagement and partnership with government departments or private entities Performing and carrying delegated administrative duties of the department. Skills and Competencies Ability to supervise research at postgraduate level and develop research capacity Ability and willingness to undertake administrative responsibilities Ability and willingness to participate in community engagement projects and related activities Sound interpersonal skills including commitment to collegiality and equal opportunities Good communication and people management skills Computer literacy and competency in applications of Windows: Word, Excel, Power point presentation Ability to use digital technologies in online leaning. Leadership and Conflict resolution skills Ability to work as a team. PhD/ Doctorate qualification in Chemistry with specialization in inorganic chemistry An undergraduate qualification with Physics II as one of the subjects Minimum of five (5) years of relevant teaching/lecturing experience at an institution of Higher Learning. Or at least 3 years in lecturing/teaching experience at an institution of Higher Learning and two years relevant industrial experience Minimum of five (5) publications in DHET accredited journals, the Inorganic Chemistry field. Evidence of successful supervision at postgraduate level. Evidence of a defined area of specialization in teaching & Learning and Research & Innovation Evidence of Active Participation in professional, industry and/or community engagement activities. Evidence of active competence in the management and administration of an academic programme.
