NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (VANDERBIJLPARK CAMPUS) DIVISION: STUDENT LIFE DEPARTMENT: STUDENT COUNSELLING AND DEVELOPMENT POSITION NUMBER: V000484 VACANCY: SENIOR MANAGER- STUDENT COUNSELLING AND DEVELOPMENT PEROMNES GRADE: 06 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT WITH BENEFITS The purpose of the position is the management of Student Counselling and Development in order to ensure optimal psycho-social support to students . KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Strategy Implementation Provide strategic leadership in order to assist in the development and execution of institutional policies. Guide Student Counselling and Development to approach Student Life and student value proposition to materialise and reflect the NWU strategy, its multi-campus nature, and national imperatives. 2. Student Counselling and Development Management and Operation Operational management of a multi-disciplinary team. Manage and develop members of staff by means of the Performance Management System. Development of a balanced equity staff profile. Supervision and management of all sub-units of Student Counselling and Development and their activities. Conduct and direct facilities, events, programmes, and structures that would enable student participation to enhance delivery of rounded and balanced students and future leaders. 3. Financial Management Budget allocation to respective sub-units of Student Counselling and Development on the Vanderbijlpark Campus. Operation financial management on campus level. 4. Representation Liaise with Faculty, Academic Schools, and Departments. Represent Student Counselling and Development on various Committees and Councils. 5. Assessment, Counselling and Therapeutic Interventions Provide assessments, counselling, and therapeutic interventions to students. 6. Coordination Participate in coordination of Student Counselling and Development services across the various campuses of NWU MINIMUM REUIREMENTS Applied Master's degree in one of the following registrations: Industrial Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology or Educational Psychology (NQF9) with specialisation in Psycho-Social Interventions (Essential|) Registration with the HPCSA as an Industrial Psychologist or Clinical Psychologist or Counselling Psychologist or Educational Psychologist (Essential) Membership of the Southern African Association for Counselling and Development in Higher Education (SAACDHE) (Desirable) 3 years' managerial experience (Essential) 4 years' post internship experience of Psychotherapeutic interventions (Essential) KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES: Experience in budget and financial management Experience in governance and operational management Experience in planning and task allocation (active and proactive planning. KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES: Good administrative and communication skills (verbal and written) Excellent interpersonal and people skills Good conflict management, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. Effective staff management and development skills and the ability to build and sustain a strong and effective team. The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
