Senior Specialist Systems Cape Town - Cape Town Region

To liaise and coordinate activities between the customer and IT professionals to ensure system problems, enhancements and developments are resolved for the business n accordance with all relevant policies and procedures. Including: Effective investigation of system problems and analysis of system enhancement requests Make recommendations on software solutions to be developed in order to meet business requirements Compile user requests into system requirements specifications Perform functional testing to ensure solutions implemented/developed will resolve issues and customer requests. Accountabilities: Continuous improvement - Identify and examine business needs and determine timely and effective solutions to business functions and processes - Evaluate and document the underlying business architecture and conduct feasibility studies, business cases, risk assessments, write proposals, and create functional requirements for new applications and major changes to existing applications made possible by information and communication technology - Compile comprehensive documentation of Test Plans and coordinate testing effort - Document implementation plan and ensure successful implementation - Conduct post implementation review - Implement practical solutions that use the specialist and departmental systems and processes - Provide specialist input and recommendations to improve the efficiency, compliance and quality objectives related to the area of specialisation - Identify problems and develop and propose solutions to present to appropriate leader or stakeholders - Ensure day to day operational support required from area of specialisation is provided to enhance performance Cost containment - Support the identification, development and implementation of cost-effective processes to increase efficiency and reduce cost drivers related to area of specialisation - Continuously review cost / benefit and Return on Investment within area of specialisation Drive customer-centricity - Maintain a high level of impact on other departments to support improved delivery - Continually increase understanding of client and stakeholder needs, satisfaction and service delivery Knowledge management - Ensure that adequate knowledge regarding specialisation is shared as required and maintained within the research library - Provide advice and / or training as required - Maintain, develop and implement specialist knowledge within the day to day operations of the organisation Maintain expertise level - Be a member of related professional bodies - Ensure CPD (continual professional development) or similar accreditation requirements are met annually to ensure maintained specialist accreditation Network key relationships - Engage with and provide support to the established network of internal and external expert resources and partners Specialist support to projects - Provide Specialist expertise and ensure best practice related to specialisation is implemented in projects, when required - Conform to project management disciplines when participating in projects - Represent department or project on appropriate committees related to area of specialisation Generic Objectives Specific deliverables: Operating Model: -Ensure availability of IT systems to the business in line with internal Service Level Agreements -Ensure prompt and effective resolution of issues in the IT environment in line with internal Service Level Agreements Continuous improvement: -Identify and examine business needs and determine timely and effective solutions to business functions and processes -Evaluate and document the underlying business architecture and conduct feasibility studies, business cases, risk assessments, write proposals, and create functional requirements for new applications, major changes to existing applications made possible by information and communication technology -Compile comprehensive documentation of Test Plans and coordinate testing effort -Document implementation plan and ensure successful implementation -Conduct post implementation review Position Specific Outputs Determine the root cause of queries logged and ensure that the issues are resolved effectively by understanding the impact of the problem, coming up with a solution and providing timely feedback in accordance with the expected timelines. Provide an excellent service to the business by making recommendations that are aligned to business requirements and are implemented effectively within the agreed timeframes. Coordinate testing efforts for all system changes and solutions implemented by firstly compiling and implementing comprehensive documentation relating to Test Plan and conduct post implementation review as part of SDLC cycle for each requirement. Evaluate and document the underlying business architecture and conduct; feasibility studies, business cases, risk assessments and proposals; and create functional requirements for new applications and major changes to existing applications made possible by information and communication technology, within estimated timelines. Take full responsibility for the operational processes through continuous monitoring against schedules and periodically reviewing processes to ensure overall operational efficiency and effectiveness at all times. Develop and implement cost effective proposed solutions (fixes) for incidents (P1-P5) in order to reduce overall costs within allocated time frame. Support the identification, development and implementation of cost-effective processes to increase efficiency and reduce cost drivers related to area of specialisation within allocated timeframe. Manage risks as per LRGC Risk Register by means of compiling and executing risk mitigation plans, with preset timelines. Contribute to the building and maintaining of a productive working environment, through continuous collaboration and development to improve team processes, transfer skills within team and maintain specialist knowledge on an ongoing basis. Manage and effectively allocate tasks within the team to ensure that all calls and projects are actioned and resolved within the agreed timeframe. Provide support and guidance to the team in order to grow and develop their skills by sharing expertise and knowledge to continuously improve capacity and effectiveness of the department in the long run.
