The Senior Technician is responsible for co-ordination and administration to ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of the departmental laboratories/Instruments. In addition, the incumbent prepares and sets up practical classes. The Senior Technician provides the necessary support to researchers and their research students in Hydrology/Hydrogeology fieldwork and the analysis of field samples. The incumbent will report to the Head of Department: Hydrology. KEY ACTIVITIES Ability to assist with practical Hydrology at undergraduate level. Ability to maintain laboratory instruments. Undertake administrative responsibilities at departmental and/or institutional level. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS BSc Honours in Hydrology. Minimum of 3 years experience in a higher education environment. Working experience with hydrological/hydrogeological/environmental equipment in both laboratory and field environment. Knowledge of using Geographical Information Systems and the ability to demonstrate their usage. Good English speaking, reading and writing capability. OTHER REQUIREMENTS Knowledge Knowledge of Hydrological/hydrogeological instruments and equipment Knowledge of ethics and procedures in the laboratory and in the field Knowledge in Hydrometry/geophysics instrument/ICP-MS, Ion Chromatography etc., Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Ac Skills Laboratory maintenance Laboratory administration skills. Asset management Involvement in Community outreach. Work in support of a diverse team. Effective communication/engagement with lecturing/research staff. Conflict management skills Computer proficiency in standard packages (word processing, e-mail, internet use and spread sheets). Communicate effectively in a respectful tone and manner in English.
