Job Description

Our client is seeking a talented and experienced Head Field Guide / Ranger provide a core service to the lodge. This position is fully responsible for conducting a guided safaris experience that is unique, personalized, professional and enjoyable, while at the same time leading and motivation a safari team. Candidates for this position should be a natural leader, passionate about people, nature, wildlife, conservation, environment and sharing their knowledge. They must be enthusiastic, energetic and physically fit. This position could also be available to couples who have a Head Guide/ Lodge Anchor combo in their experience as the Lodge is also currently looking for a Lodge Anchor.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing an interpretive safari experience on game drive and / or walks daily
  • Hosting of guests for the duration of their stay at the lodge
  • Responsible for the safety and well-being of guests while on safari
  • Coordination extra quests activities on the reserve, do guest allocations and maintain the allocation board
  • Take full responsibility for the management of the Safari Department, this includes compiling monthly reports, participate in the budget process and managing budget lines.
  • Inspire, stimulate and lead the ranging team and maintain discipline
  • Assume overall responsibility for all equipment and vehicles instill a culture of care
  • Uphold the brand and Reserve code of conduct
  • Manage leave cycles and training files
  • Hold and facilitate rangers meetings
  • Oversee Ranger Blogs
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years guiding experience in a Big 5 reserve with in a similar lodge environment
  • Previous head ranger or assistant head ranger experience
  • FGASA Level 2 /3 qualification
  • Full Trails Guide qualification
  • Valid PDP
  • Valid Code 08 Drivers License
  • DEAT registered
  • First Aid level 1/2/3
  • 3 Unit Standards
  • Rifle Competency
  • Advanced Rifle Handling (ARH)
