The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls (The Academy) is a world-class educational platform for girls which is aimed at nurturing a new generation of dynamic women leaders. This residential boarding school is situated in Meyerton, Gauteng Province, with just over 300 students enrolled in Grades 8 -12. Grade 12. Students write the Independent Examination Board (I.E.B.) NSC Examination. Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates. Job Purpose The Academy invites enthusiastic and hardworking candidates completing either their Social Work or Teaching qualifications this year, through a recognised tertiary institution to apply. The teaching intern will be required to commit to a programme-structured day which includes, but is not limited to; observation, lesson presentation, academic administration, involvement in the co-curricular programme, etc. The Social Auxiliary intern will be required to work in the Social Workspace. Both interns will also be expected to provide high-quality care and support to students within the Academy's boarding/residence space. In collaboration with the Head of Boarding, the Matron, Assistant Matron, and the House Mistress, the incumbent will be expected to play a locus parental role to the learners. The successful candidate must be able to work with other colleagues within the Academy such as Psychologists, Teachers, Social Workers, Nurses, Catering staff, Uniform Controller, Administration, Facilities Management, Extramural & Sports Coordinators. Knowledge, Skills and Attitude Must be willing to participate fully in the school's extramural programme. Have a passion for learning and see themselves working towards a permanent career in teaching. Actively seeking to develop professionally in a school environment that is committed to providing quality education. Have a passion for providing care and support to adolescent young women and girls. Have a good understanding of the psycho-social issues and needs of adolescent young women and girls. Ability to build and maintain effective and productive working relationships. Possess a strong work ethic. Have a positive outlook and an open mind. Excellent communication skills. Excellent writing skills Excellent time management and organizational skills. Leadership skills and modelling. Good report writing skills. Fully computer literate. Ability to multi-task. Ability to sew. Ability to use own judgement and discretion. Ability to listen and relate to each student. Demonstrate high levels of professionalism, competency and initiative. Act with the highest integrity and uphold the Academy's standards and values (Respect, Honour, Compassion, Service, Responsibility and Accountability) at all times. Minimum Academic Requirements and Experience Teaching Intern Requirements: A Matric certificate. Applicants must be in their 3rd or 4th year of studying towards a degree in education or a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education through correspondence in 2024. Proof of registration will be required. Only Interns with at least one of the following Teaching Subjects will be considered: Natural Science Physical Science Dramatic Arts Creative Arts Computer Applications Technology Information Technology Social Auxiliary Intern Requirement: A Matric certificate. In the final year of study towards a relevant Social Work degree or has recently completed a degree in 2023 and be proficient in case, group and community work competencies.
