The Solar Engineer will have the dynamic role of leading and managing the Business Unit’s renewable energry pojects during the development, execution and operational project phases. It will require a well experienced engineer to develop and execute projects from cradle to grave with excellent growth and development opportunities in line with expansion of the renewable energy projects. Develop the conceptual phase for the Client which would include the design, costing and various options as required by the Client. Negotiate with the Clients to secure the orders and meet the targets as set out by the business unit, with the assistance from the Management Team. Detailed Design for projects and engage in negotiations regarding the EPC and O&M contract. Coordinate and manage external engineering firms, subcontractors, and the Client to ensure timely, cost-effective, and high-quality project completion. Management of all employees for all activities relating to the solar projects. Keep abreast of market developments, trends and prices of solar technologies including PV modules, inverters and batteries. The compilation of CAPEX and OPEX cost estimates for financial model purposes for the Solar Projects. The compilation of technical solar and electrical specifications and the compilation of RFP / RFQ documents (drawings, specifications, returnable documents) for solar and electrical EPC Contractors and Equipment Suppliers. Technical evaluation and negotiations with EPC / Solar / Electrical contractors, equipment suppliers and O&M Contractors. The review and acceptance of detailed solar and electrical designs produced by external consultants or contractors. Technical support to Project Managers, Construction Managers, Site Supervisors and Commissioning Managers for site activities during execution phase of projects Ensuring that the designs and installations meet our client's requirements and all the relevant safety regulations. The review and acceptance of EPC Contractor's detailed PV designs and specifications. Management of Solar Grid Code Compliance Requirements. Project Management of projects. Minimum qualifications and experience B-Tech or B-Degree in Electrical Engineering ECSA Registration will be advantageous Minimum of 5 years’ experience in renewable energy projects, related to commercial & industrial solutions which include grid tied, hybrid and mini-grid solutions Battery energy storage and grid scale (ground mount) solutions experience will be advantageous Experience in developing feasibility studies and concept solutions Good commercial insight and cost management of projects Project Management experience Supplier & Contractor management experience Computer literate (MS Office Suite, MS Projects (basic), AutoCAD or similar, PVSyst/Helioscope, Homer, other related packages) Behavioural competencies Self-driven to achieve success Independent and taking ownership Technically competent in solar and battery storage projects/solutions Customer orientated and quality focused Accuracy and deadline driven Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines Excellent written and verbal communication, and presentation skills Read and interpret technical specifications, standards and drawings Write technical reports, specifications documents and procedures Must be in possession of valid driver’s license and passport Appointments will be made in accordance with the employment equity plan.
