We are looking for an experienced Plastics Technical Manager for a Plastics Company in the Germiston area of the East Rand Responsibilities Responsible for overseeing all technical aspects of plastic moulding operations, including mould design, process optimization, tooling maintenance, and quality assurance. Mould Design and Development: Lead the design and development of injection moulds, collaborating closely with design engineers, toolmakers, and external vendors to ensure the efficient and cost-effective production of high-quality plastic components. Process Optimization: Optimize injection moulding processes to maximize productivity, minimize cycle times, reduce scrap rates, and improve overall efficiency, utilizing scientific moulding principles and advanced manufacturing techniques. Tooling Maintenance: Manage the maintenance and repair of moulds and tooling equipment, implementing preventive maintenance programs, conducting regular inspections, and coordinating repairs to minimize downtime and ensure optimal performance. Quality Assurance: Establish and maintain quality control procedures and standards for plastic moulding operations, conducting inspections, performing root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions to address quality issues and deviations. Technical Support: Provide technical support and expertise to production teams, troubleshooting process problems, conducting training sessions, and implementing best practices to enhance the skills and capabilities of staff. New Product Development: Support new product development initiatives by providing technical input, conducting feasibility studies, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to bring new products to market. Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize processes, reduce costs, and enhance product quality and performance Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols governing plastic moulding operations, maintaining a safe and environmentally responsible work environment. Requirements Relevant Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Plastics/Materials is essential Experience: 10 years Plastic Manufacturing experience is not negotiable (10 years in a Technical Management role within the plastic moulding industry, with a strong background in injection moulding processes, tooling, and quality assurance) Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of injection moulding processes, tooling design, materials selection, trouble shooting and quality control principles Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams, foster a culture of continuous improvement, and drive results in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to analyse complex technical issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions to improve processes and resolve production challenges. Communication Skills: Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and concisely to diverse audiences, including production teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
