The candidate will be responsible for researching, sourcing, negotiating and obtaining the best prices and lead-times from suppliers and subcontractors. The candidate will be required to design components to suit customised pump arrangements, modify existing drawings where necessary and provide advice to machine-shops, fabricators and fitters to ensure the design is implemented correctly through to installation. Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Analyse the full scope of supply, bills of materials and other project documentation in order to estimate costs. 2. Create new designs where necessary, complete with cutting lists and machining/fabrication drawings. 3. Provide accurate estimation of costs and lead-time for the complete manufacturing of components, taking into account material, labour, machining, electricity and logistics. 4. Research, source and obtain the best price and lead-time from suppliers/subcontractors and have the ability to negotiate costs with suppliers based on the above calculations. 5. Be responsible to analyse information that can affect costs, e.g. currency exchange rates. 6. Assist the Sales Department in preparing quotations. This shall include costing for, but not limited to, new designs, baseplates, vertical pumps, pontoons, walkaways and tanks. 7. Comply with all the design requirements according to customer specifications, industry and engineering standards. 8. Provide engineering calculations including but not limited to: Load analysis, material stress, fluid dynamics, Centre of gravity. 9. Identify material requirements and provide assistance with the bill of materials generated and verify the bill of materials per job file received. 10. Be responsible for the support of the assembly process to ensure that all contractual technical requirements are met. The candidate shall identify assembly methods and/or develop new assembly methods if required and resolve any problems encountered during the assembly process. 11. Evaluate machine-shop and fabricator abilities and capacities, and provide feedback to procurement to improve lead-times, cost management and quality. 12. Identify and evaluate potential new suppliers and assist with the onboarding process. 13. Able to interpret engineering drawings, assist machine-shops and fabricators with machine-setup & interpretation of drawings 14. Work together with the Quality department to interpret drawings and identify/resolve Non-Conformances. 15. Responsible to ensure adherence to ISO quality standards and procedures of record keeping and maintenance of drawing register, traceability, Drawing Revision Management. The candidate shall ensure that the machine shops are updated with new drawing revision numbers, that the company records (vault files) are updated with new drawing revision numbers and that ERP System (BOM's) are updated with new drawing revision numbers. 16. Participate in design meetings with Technical sales, QA & the planning department. Technical handovers, internally and externally. 17. Liaises with customers and suppliers as required. Educational Qualifications: Degree or National diploma in Mechanical Engineering - Registered as a professional engineer and relevant experience in the pump industry. Core Competencies & Abilities: Minimum of 8 years' experience in mechanical design and fabrication detailing Good general knowledge of pump application, mechanical and hydraulic loading, engineering concepts. Knowledge of material strengths, fits and tolerances. Hands-on experience with design, engineering and/or fabrication of pump components Good experience with and willing to conceptualise designs using CAD packages. Sound knowledge of Metallurgy Experience on Vault ERP System experience Proficient computer skills as well as: CAD Software Autodesk Inventor 3ds max Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary. Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects. Strong problem-solving skills and a creative approach for generating new ideas. Apply Now
