Job Summary: Technology Manager The Technology Manager is responsible for leading a team of technicians and engineers to design, develop, and improve custom polymer formulations. This is accomplished by working closely with the sales and marketing teams to identify and prioritize development opportunities that will further drive the growth of specialty formulations. Leads a team to formulate products to meet customer requirements with respect to mechanical properties, electrical properties, flame resistance, flow, surface appearance, shrinkage etc., and requires effective resource utilization and team management. Performs independently and effectively coaches others to achieve results in a matrix environment. Essential Functions Leading people and a team: Conduct regular team and one-on-one meetings; provide frequent feedback and support, including periodic performance reviews; serve as an enabler and motivator; develop individuals professionally and the team as a whole. Creating a team-oriented innovation culture. Leading and delivering technical developments through the team: Accountable for successful technical developments and product and process commercialization by demonstrating and driving project planning and management across the team, including use of stage gate processes and thoughtful resource allocations. Contributing to strategy development via technology road mapping: Be a thought partner and contributor to long term strategy with a focus on developing and adding future technologies to enable business growth. Collaborating across functions, regions, and businesses: Represent the R&D team and coordinate with other functional leaders and teams, other businesses, and the broader Avient Technology community to enable and advance projects from ideation through commercialization. Modifying existing formulations without compromising existing properties Formulating compounds to meet customers' requirements Assisting with production scale-up and process troubleshooting and process improvements where necessary Understanding and selecting appropriate raw materials, including base resins, additives, fillers, flame retardants, stabilizers, lubricants, etc. to achieve the required compound properties and applications Assisting in the sourcing of new raw materials for product development Assisting with raw material cost saving programs Growing the team: Lead hiring and onboarding processes to grow the team. Increasing R&D capabilities: Responsible for planning, leveraging, and adding R&D capabilities, including identifying third party resources and making capital requests. Effectively communicating to all levels of the global organization. Other duties as assigned Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Polymer or Material Science, Chemistry, or related technical field preferred 5 years' experience in R&D (product, process, and/or application development) 4 years of demonstrated people influence management and project team leadership (minimum) 2 years of people-management experience preferred Additional Qualifications Ability to prioritize and allocate a portfolio of projects across a diverse team Ability to manage personnel and a team day-to-day to deliver results Ability to contribute to technical innovation and problem solving Demonstrated success leading innovations from ideation through commercialization Ability to contribute to technology strategy development Knowledge of fibers or fiber processing preferred Knowledge of coating technologies, resin formulation, or extrusion a bonus Knowledge of textiles or composites a bonus Effective oral and written communication skills Demonstrated leadership skills with focus on enabling a team's success Capable of hands on involvement in lab, pilot, and manufacturing environments Experience ensuring safe practices in an R&D environment Self-motivated and curious learner Environmental, Health, Safety, & Security (EHS&S) Requirements Avient Corporation is a drug free workplace.
