The Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR) is a non-governmental organisation which envisions societies that are peaceful, equal and free from violence. CSVR aims to understand and prevent violence, heal its effects and build sustainable peace at community, national and regional levels. We do this through collaboration with and learning from the lived and diverse experiences of communities affected by violence and conflict to inform innovative interventions, generate knowledge, shape public discourse, influence policy, hold States accountable and promote gender equality, social cohesion and active citizenship. Job Title: Urban Violence Researcher Location: Johannesburg or Cape Town office Employment Type: a one-year contract, renewable dependent on funding. The successful candidate will be part of the CSVR’s Research Team. Responsibilities: Conducting literature reviews Collecting secondary data from a range of public sources Conduct qualitative data collection in marginalized communities Conceptualise and plan research and developing research instruments Write analytical reports and journal articles Write policy briefs and media articles Contribute to strategic thinking regarding CSVR research and advocacy work Presenting findings to policy makers, academic conferences and partners Competency Profile Master’s degree, preferably in social sciences Research experience, particularly in relation to causes and consequences of violence and violence prevention At least 2 years’ experience in conducting qualitative research, particularly within NGO environment Demonstrated knowledge of violence within South Africa society, policies and programmes relating to violence prevention Strong writing and analytical skills, with a record of publications Fluency in English and in at least one South African language Ability to be innovate, to manage complex workload and work independently under pressure To apply Please send your CV, a writing sample and the names and contact details of 3 references to [email protected] Application Deadline: Monday, 9 November, 2020 Apply Now
