Position: Accountant

Location: Lynwood, Pretoria

Reporting to: Financial Manager

Job Overview:

We are seeking a talented and experienced Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in accounting principles, financial analysis, and a passion for accuracy and attention to detail. Key Responsibilities:

Financial Recordkeeping:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
  • Reconcile bank statements and monitor cash flow to ensure the availability of funds for lending operations.

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare and analyse financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Generate regular financial reports for management to support decision-making.
  • Assist with month end closure.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and lending industry standards.
  • Assist in preparing documentation for external audits.

Loan Portfolio Management:

  • Monitor and track loans and their associated interest income, ensuring accuracy in loan accounting.
  • Calculate and record provisions for loan losses and assess the adequacy of loan reserves.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Participate in the development of the annual budget and financial forecasts.
  • Analyse budget variances and provide recommendations for cost control.

Taxation:

  • Prepare tax returns (VAT & PAYE).
  • Stay informed about changes in tax laws and ensure compliance with tax regulations.

Financial Analysis:

  • Conduct financial analysis to assess the company's financial performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Assist in financial modelling for new lending products and business initiatives.

Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process enhancements.

Qualification and Experience Requirements:

  • Accounting/Finance degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in similar roles.
  • Ability to create logical and thorough financial reports.
  • Experience working with ERP systems, preferably Xero.
  • MS Excel Advanced (Non-negotiable)
