Chief Safety Officer - South Africa

Our well-established client involved in the future electrification of South Africa requires a Chief Safety Officer to assist them on a fixed term contract basis with duties and responsibilities as indicated below. Candidates are required to have a minimum of a National Diploma in Safety Management plus competency requirements as per the Mine, Health and Safety Act as well as COMSOC (1,2,3) or SAMTRAC Driving the Safety Management system and Risk Management process continuously in sections Ensuring investigations are up to date and of good quality and SHE officer legal inspections are up to date and on standard Coaching SHE officers on quality inspections Facilitating investigations Implementing ORMP (Operational Risk Management Process) and LFI (Learning from Incidents) in sections Providing guidance and advise to HOD’s on what should be done within the current Safety Management system to address trends identified Participation in in-the field safety coaching and ensuring that middle managers drive the safety Management system. Ensuring that weekly reporting is accurate timeous reporting to DMR Implementing contractor Management according to Exploration Standards. Assisting in the development of the Departmental safety objectives and targets and monitor the implementation Facilitation of tactical implementation initiatives Planning and co-ordinating the workload per SHE officer to ensure optimal coverage. Overseeing the process of safety audits for the operations Tracking quantitative KPI’s to measure safety risk, trends and control effectiveness Assisting and guiding contractor during the tender phase as well as the on mine on boarding phase This is a Fixed Term Contract role in the SHEQ department at a Band 6 level reporting to the Senior SHE Specialist Qualifications: National Diploma in Safety Management plus competency requirements as per the Mine, Health and Safety Act (where applicable) COMSOC 1, 2, 3 or SAMTRAC National Driver’s License Valid medical certificate - To be obtained prior to appointment: ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 audit training A2 and A3 Risk Management Training Experience: At least 5 years’ experience in daily SHE management in a mine environment (preferable open cast). Experience as Chief Safety Officer will be an added advantage Experience in internal auditing Experience in developing, implementing, managing and auditing Risk Control initiatives and programs Experience in leading and facilitating baseline, issue-based, job-task, pre-job, and personal risk assessments Apply Now
