Our Client in the Engineering sector has a vacancy for a CNC Operator/ Programmer. Duties Set machine tools. Adjust Tool Offsets Program machine at the control (no CAM systems). In other words, this position requires the candidate to some of their own programming at the machine control level, not to generate toolpaths on CAM systems. We have someone doing this already. The controls we use are Siemens and Fanuc, the machine we use are 3 axis machining centre, 2 axis lathes (with and without live tooling), vertical lathe / borer. Set up jigs and fixtures. Clock up jigs and fixtures. Setup work co-ordinate systems Save programs to network. Load and Run programs generated from CAM systems by CAD / CAM Engineers Must be capable of machining a workpiece unsupervised, including marking off setting up. We work primarily with non-ferrous alloys, bronzes, coppers, aluminium and occasionally some steels. The candidate must be capable of determining cutting feeds and speeds to suit these alloys and adjust as and when necessary. Most of the product that we machine are castings. The candidate should understand how to reference a raw cast face in order to start his / her setup. Furthermore, castings also require an understanding of where there is, or is not, stock to remove, and this needs to be considered in the workpiece setup process, the candidate should have a good understanding of this need. The candidate must be capable of reading machine shop level documents and drawings. We are an ISO9001:2015 rated company, therefore the candidate must be aware that there may be certain tasks that are required to be performed according to very stringent steps and processes and may need to adapt their own ways of from time to time. This position is NOT a “desk job” position. The candidate WILL be required to spend his day at the machine/s The candidate must be flexible and understand that he or she WILL be required to operate more than one machine as and when required. The candidate must be flexible in their approach, so that they understand that while one operation is running on one machine, they may be required to setup another machine while the other machine is running, furthermore, they will be expected to keep the machines running at an optimal efficiency level.
