DIVISIONAL PRODUCTION MANAGER - Johannesburg
Based East Rand. Due to early retirement, this key position has become available. Join this flagship Company which is a market leader in their niche industry and manufactures their industrial products for local and international markets. The Company forms part of a Group of Companies where the local Group turnover is in excess of R2 billion. The plant has been modernised and uses Lean, 6 Sigma, Continuous Improvement and Visual Management (there are CCTVs in various Departments of the plant which provides key manufacturing information) as major thrusts in the manufacturing process. This plant consists of, inter alia, smelting (furnaces), refining (with various sized pots) and the use of hydro metallurgy (mechanical crushers) to split up the incoming raw materials into various streams. The Divisional Production Manager will be fully responsible for one of these Production Divisions where there are 20 Subordinates consisting of 4 Foreman and 16 Operators. The plant runs 24/7 and is split into 4 shifts.
Key performance areas, inter alia, include:
- Manage, mentor and guide Production Team and performance manage staff as well as doing performance appraisals.
- Work closely with 2 other Divisional Production Managers and ensure products are received timeously and in accordance with predetermined targets.
- Develop and maintain the integral planning system to ensure daily products are streamed to the relevant manufacturing sections and that there are no bottlenecks and production is both economical and effective. Therefore, the candidate needs to have superior organising and planning skills.
- Assess and regulate the Production Department and plant so that approved plans are achieved and deviations are corrected promptly. It should be noted that there are ongoing projects which needs to be adequately controlled and managed. In addition, the Company has stringent SHERQ requirements and there is a Clinic on the premises.
- Financially control the Production Department by ensuring that the budget is strictly adhered to and production costs are managed to improve profitability and efficiency.
- Overall, the Operations Manager whom this candidate will be reporting to, is requiring plant process optimisation via increased output at lower cost without compromising throughput and reliability.
Requirements:
- The candidate must have a tertiary degree, namely, B Sc or similar with majors in Mechanical or Chemical or Metallurgical or Process Engineering. In addition, be from a heavy engineering environment and with at least 10 years management experience. Experience with crushers, screens, filter presses would by a distinct advantage and/or from a heavy metals.
- Able to effectively plan, organsie, lead, control finance and regulate work streams. In addition, knowledge of lean manufacturing and 5S are required.
- A problem solver, critical thinker, assertive, proactive and self-disciplined candidate that is driven and has high energy are also prerequisites.
