The successful incumbent will have to provide ongoing skills training for drivers in both theory and in-cab defensive driver training. The successful incumbent will be responsible for the below duties: • Assist in the assessment of applicants • Assist in medical assessments to meet minimum health requirements, in the absence of the line manager. • Assist in conducting practical driving assessments to assess driver capabilities. • Assist in conducting vehicle type assessment and product knowledge and experience. • Assist in the literacy capability of all recruits. • Conduct in-cab driver assessment and complete the evaluation report for submission to the line manager. Assess and make recommendations as to the appropriate remedial training that is required. • Conduct practical corrective training when required to achieve the desired improvements. • Conduct refresher driver training to maintain skills and ensure continuous improvement. • Assess the driver’s practical knowledge of vehicle operations and product handling, competencies and compliance and submit assessment to the line manager. • Perform regular vehicle inspections and audits with the drivers when vehicles are in the depot to audit: o Cleanliness and cab condition of the vehicle; o Trailers condition and cleanliness. • Perform ancillary equipment audits and update the list, reporting on any exceptions or deviations for further investigation and recommend corrective action to be taken. • Complete all forms and submit to the line manager. • Conduct route assessments on all new and existing routes to evaluate the potential risks for vehicles, loads and drivers. • Update the route risk assessment documents with the latest review and outcomes. • Make recommendations to line manager to mitigate risks where possible. • Distribute the route risk assessment documents to all operations and drivers accordingly. • Provide coaching to drivers on all route assessments and test their knowledge and understanding of the risks associated therein. • Initiate minor disciplinary matters based on misconduct or poor work performance, and escalate to the line manager. • Maintain up to date training records and check that attendance registers are complete and signed by attendees. • Report weekly and monthly on training assessments to the line manager.
