IT Specialist Unix – 2 Positions - South Africa
SPECIALIST (C5) – (2 X Positions) – UNIX -Hosts and Job scheduling IT Service Delivery (Corporate: Eco Point: Centurion) Reports to Manager: IT Postbank Production and Infrastructure-Hosts and Job scheduling Summation The successful candidate will be responsible to support the IT Service delivery –Server Management services Provided to the user community through the use of ITIL Change management process and procedures, thereby ensuring these changes do not result in exception/outages which would impact negatively on the delivery of services to customer and clients. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement the departmental operational plan Analyse the IT Service Delivery strategy and roadmap pertinent to the server management function to determine the future trends, strategic direction and legal implication and feed into manager Design systems, install hardware and operating systems; identify solutions through constant interfacing with appropriate management levels, clients, departments and vendor organization to ensure a cost effective and efficient infrastructure environment is available to provide the processing power essential to department operations. Design and implement system architectures Develop / follow procedures for UNIX administration Recommend standards and guidelines Recommend /select specific products as necessary, participating in tool and vendor evaluations. Manage server management Troubleshoot problems and handle client queries Monitor and measure the performance consistently in accordance with the metrics agreed upon in the SLA`s Maintain systems and platforms Provide expert consultation/advice Design solution Conduct an impact study to determine the possible effect on the current and associated systems Conduct appropriate research to obtain the necessary information required Complete consultation actions within the allocated time frames Minimum Requirements • Full credit bearing National Diploma (NQF 5) in: Information Technology • Full credit bearing Bachelor Degree (NQF 6) in: Information Technology, computer science or commerce will be an advantage • At least5 years applicable experience (Diploma) • At least 2 years applicable experience (Degree) • ITIL V3.0 Foundation an advantage • AIX 6.1 or 7.1 Certified an advantage Skills & Attitudes SKILLS • Conflict management • Able to work independently as well as in a team • Analytical and objective with attention to detail • Time management • Lifecycle management • An ability to present findings and to persuade and obtain willing co-operation from others • Results/deadline orientated • Able to handle a degree of routine tasks • Excellent communication (verbal& written)skills and good interpersonal skills ATTITUDES • Calm, • Decisive, • Self-motivating, • Self-starter • Results orientated / • Deadline driven • Ability to handle work pressure and stress The South African Post Office is committed to the achievement and maintenance of diversity and equity in employment, especially with regard to race, gender and disability.
