Accountant - Centurion


Minimum requirements for the role:
  • Must have a tertiary qualification in Accounting Sciences and SAIPA, SAICA or CIMA Accreditation
  • Minimum 5 years proven work experience in accounting and 2 years proven experience in a Senior Accounting role
  • Retail financial management and accounting experience is essential
  • Must have sound knowledge of financial computer systems
  • Established proficiency in Microsoft 365 office suite with an emphasis on MS Excel at an Advanced Level is essential
  • SAGE Evolution and Meat Matrix experience is advantageous
  • Proficient in English (read, write, and speak)

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Analyzing sales trends and reporting on figures.
  • Reconciling monthly balance sheets.
  • Checking expense general ledger and month end journals, including payroll and assets.
  • Analyzing inventory reports and reporting on figures.
  • Reporting to the Group Financial Manager (including but not limited to Trial Balance, Income Statements, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow).
  • Calculating VAT, PAYE, and income taxation for tax practitioners.
  • Approving bank transactions on SAGE and FNB (payments and adding beneficiaries).
  • Calculating and maintaining monthly cashflow forecasts.
  • Maintaining weekly cash bank balances.
  • Reporting weekly cash flow figures to the Group Financial Manager and CFO.
  • Reviewing ageing analysis on a monthly basis and liaising with customers and vendors.
  • Ensuring that the Accounts Payable and Receivable team is adhering to daily tasks.
  • Ensuring that the Accounts Payable and Receivable team is replying to all queries (internally and customer-related) and handling them accurately.
  • Motivating and leading the team in developing and following processes and efficiencies.
  • Ensuring deadlines are met at all times.
  • Conducting annual external audits (drafting financial statements and acting as company liaison).
  • Recruiting employees Actively involved in all team appointments.
  • Onboarding and providing finance induction for new employees.
  • Supervising and providing input on training and development efforts.
  • Managing employee relations (discipline in the workplace).
  • Handling performance management.
  • Overseeing employee wellness and motivation.
  • Reporting monthly on financial performance of all Retail stores to the Board of Directors and Retail Store Managers.
  • Calculating return on investment for current and future retail stores.
  • Assisting the Group Financial Manager with yearly budgets and board reporting figures.
  • Assisting the Group Retail Manager with board reporting figures.
  • Managing the implementation and maintenance of company financial IT systems in retail stores (e.g., SAGE implementation, Point of Sale (POS)).
  • Identifying procedural weaknesses in the day-to-day running of retail stores and implementing measures to rectify them as needed.
  • Travelling to stores for audits and risk assessments.
