Accountant Bookkeeper - South Africa

Job Purpose: The Bookkeeper will keep records of the financial transactions of the companies in area of responsibility which includes Nkobane verifying, allocating and posting details of business transactions to subsidiary accounts in the journals or accounting system from documents, such as sales slip, invoices, receipts and computer print outs. Summarize details in separate ledgers or accounting system and transfers data to the general ledger. The employee will also compile reports to show statistics, such as cash receipts and expenditures, accounts payable and receivables, profit and loss, and other items pertinent to the operation of the business. Their role also includes the preparation and payment of statutory fees and submissions as well as completing financial records to trial balance. Bookkeeper Responsibilities: Review monthly expenditures, and compile management reports for submission to the leadership team Reconcile monthly bank statements against invoices received (creditors) and payments made and action any anomalies appropriately Ensure that all creditors' payments are supported by relevant documents Review the monthly creditors aging list for any anomalies Reconcile monthly bank statements (membership) against invoices issued (debtors) and payments received Review the monthly Debtors aging list for long outstanding invoices Record income received, and code all transactions to the appropriate accounts Perform debtors’ reconciliation and collect outstanding amounts weekly Assist with the annual audit (both internal and external) of all companies Completes other ad hoc tasks as required Adhere to organizational procedures & policies Development and submission of reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual reports and ad hoc reports as required) Prepares budgets and cashflow projections for review monthly Complies with legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions. Implements statutory applications and resolves queries through the preparation of documentation and application for different tax types – VAT, PAYE, Income Tax. Prepares and accurately submits annual returns, and AFS in accordance with GAAP / IFRS. Performs secretarial and administrative duties such as ensuring clients are registered with CIPC, UIF and COIDA. Bookkeeper Requirements: Appropriate tertiary qualification in Accounting 2-3 years' experience in bookkeeping within a commercial environment Has an excellent understanding of the structure and functions within all businesses In-depth knowledge of general accounting bookkeeping theories and practices Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures and how to provide good service to all customers within the organization Knowledge of effective time management, prioritizing and forward-planning practices Excellent interpersonal and communication (both written and oral) skills, Demonstrating outstanding ability to correspond with colleagues, internal and external customers Excellent organizational skills, with experience in planning own workload to meet deadlines Experience in producing reliable and accurate work in a busy, pressured environment.
